In theory it's amazing.

But it would be 833% (Or more, I'm being very conservative) more expensive for only 300% (Assuming perfectly parallel software) more performance over an architecture that is brand new. The core architecture is old and Intel is throwing a lot of money at it for marginal gains in x86.

Weak performance gains yet a bigger increase in price tag......I was waiting for haswell but its just a disappointment. Unless of course the saving grace is if it overclocks like a champ.

I'm still quite happy with my L5540, and should I see the need to upgrade, There's always the six core L5560's or X5660's and the SR2.

I honestly don't see me graduating from X58 for quite some time.

If you can remove the heat issues that Ivy had, then I'd say it's worthy upgrade if the average can be getting to 5ghz+ easy. IPC increase and OC increase- who can argue?

Any performance increase is welcome, I will not complain. But I still need a good reason to upgrade, so the % increase is very important. When the time comes that there is a CPU 40% better than mine, then I will consider. Just as I spent 4 years on a Q6600, only to choose a 2500k after Ivy Bridge had released.

I expect I'll be on this chip for another 4 years, waiting for an entire platform upgrade. 6-core or 8-core CPU, DDR4, PCI-E 4.0, USB 4.0, SATA 4, etc. For a 7% IPC increase in Ivy, or 9/10% increase in haswell, or even if Intel outdid themselves with a 23% IPC increase, I still not would see the value in upgrading when the platform remained the same.

Maybe they offer this price to so people think "hey i might as well go 2011 if i'm spending this much on mainstream."

$370? That means they will retail AT LEAST at €320-340 in Spain. And the 4570K will go up to 250€. I haven't paid over 200 bucks for a CPU in my entire life, and now it's not going to change. And even less for a quadcore.

AMD, give Steamroller a 10% IPC boost over Vishera and you have one chip sold over here.

Edit: Well, two in fact. An FX and an A10.

This. The VR now being on the die plus no more just bumping the multi might make overclocking more interesting with it.
