We do. The US taxpayers have funded dozens of alternative energy companies, and just about all of them have gone bankrupt.

BTW, no one is holding you back from cutting your own dependence on fossil fuels and building your own windmills or investing in your own solar panels, etc. See how far you can get rolleyes.gif ...or are you just a hypocrite?

Because both of those are extremely problematic for grid power. Solar needs massive space for panel fields which need to have both improved conversion ratios and daylight timeframes in order to even power anything remotely close to what we currently consume. Wind has the problem in that they're finding windy areas over time actually change. Nothing is worse than setting down a wind farm in an area that becomes less windy. Hydro is complicated by what water is allowed to be dedicated for such an endeavor.

There's less an oil industry conspiracy and more facing the music about the cost. I'd love to move past oil and fossil fuels but people wouldn't accept the sacrifices they'd have to make in their daily lives to do so...unless we went to nuclear power. But alas, the public is stupid and they fear what they don't understand.

If you want to be political then go to a political forum. I have some very strong opinions about all this too but this is a COMPUTER forum.

What would you suggest? Wealth distribution would tank productivity.
