ACHI for SSD and RAID for HDDs?

I got some free WD RE3 drives today, and i want to run them in RAID0. But i can only choose ACHI OR RAID in BIOS? When i go with RAID, i can do the array, but the SSD (with Win 7) wont boot up..

I did a software raid now, but im not sure this is a good idea..
What if i reinstall OS? Will the Array be there?

Okay. From your Link: "RAID mode has all the advantages of AHCI mode."

So i guess i wont loose SSD performance going from ACHI to RAID in BIOS?

I used striped 128K and it works fine. But i think my read speed is little low compared to the software raid? Its only 185MB/s, but write speed is 230 MB/s? (CDM 1GB)

Im use 2x WD RE3 500GB disks (7200RPM/16MB)

Im almost sure the software raid had 220 MB/s in both read and write..


BTW. Im gonna use it for download drive, with alot of unrar'ing. Is it better using 64K for this or should i stick with 128K?

you can use 64k or 128k. There may not be much of a difference. You have to benchmark to see what you get then choose based on the results.

Generally smaller stripe = better for small files, larger better for larger files.
