They have deals with MS, Sony and Nintendo, generating revenue. They have a platform that performs exceptionally well in x86 tablets, netbooks and ultrabooks. They have world's most powerful consumer IGPs, and world's most affordable 'high' performance x86 quadcore processors. They are also leaders in OpenCL technologies, and founders of HSA.

The APUs REALLY ARE the future. The world needs faster IGPs than Intel's anemic HD, and even GT2 parts can offer. Joe won't be too happy with gaming at 720p, everything at low, and getting clunky framerates, while his console works fine.

The world needs affordable quadcores, because software, especially at OS level, is shifting more and more away from single threaded tasks. And a dual core, is barely cutting it anymore.

And HSA will just make all of this even sweeter.

If AMD will really get 288M out of them, this year only... NVIDIA was just mad when they said it wasn't profitable.

Ultrabooks are exclusive to Intel

Tegra 4 is supposed to be pretty powerful and it will be interesting to see which phones and tablets use it. Not to mention Nvidia also supply other components to phone manufacturers. So Nvidia are in a much more profitable market than the console market.

But lets just hope that this added revenue from the consoles will be invested back into CPU R&D and AMD can become competitive. I know AMD are touted as the price:performance kings but lets be honest, the 2500k last generation took that crown, and the 3570k is arguably the best value of this generation. So lets hope AMD can start to turn things around, they've been lagging behind for far too long thumb.gif

It's a short sighted move for ATI to sell imageron. Adreno is actually very good right now.

The point is AMD will get a nice profit from this.

Argue about other divisions in some other thread.

This thread is about consoles.

No they don't. At this point in time HSA is pretty much useless, AMD can't offer the low power consumption at the performance level intel is and intel's CPU performance is way higher than AMD's.

The surface pro isn't a gaming tablet and if you do try gaming on it you'll drain the battery in no time. HD4000 is enough for casual games while the CPU is the more important part for the surface.

The weakness of Surface Pro is the $1000 price tag, thanks in no small part to the i5-3317U that have an Intel OEM tray price of $225. The whole Win8 hybrid tablet idea would look a lot more appealing if it were powered by a $40 Quad Core Temash APU( or a 22nm Quad core Atom like Baytrail with Ivy ALU) with similar graphic power and sells for the the current Surface RT price tag.

Yes cause cpu power matters a lot over gpu power in a tablet wth.gif.

An amd z-60 uses 4.5watts

while the Intel Core i5-3317U uses 17 watts and the Intel Atom Z2760 uses 15 watts.

Who has the better product?

Source? The Anandtech Clovertrail review shows Atom Z2760 using less than 5W in all tests, where did you get the 15W from?

AMD do have a strong competitor for x86 tablet design wins in Temash, hopefull it gets in some sub $500 1080p Win8 Tablets.

Mind pointing out where it says Z2760 uses 15W?

In a review of the Acer W510 & Atom Z2760 posted by Anand himself 3 month after your link:

This is the result

I don't see the 15W you claimed anywhere here.
