Should I honestly switch...?

Thread Starter
Hey OCN! Over the course of a few weeks after finishing my sig rig, I've decided I'm not happy with the way it looks, sounds, and performs (temp wise), and I figured that since I'm doing a rig overhaul, I might wanna evaluate the performance of my CPU and motherboard. Right now, I'm running an FX-8350 at 4.5GHz on an Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z, and what I'm wondering is that if I should honestly switch to Intel? I've heart about people moaning about it and how much better it is, but whenever I've used an Intel gaming or editing rig for any period of time, I'm not impressed at all. I know there's a far wider variety of motherboards, accessories, and optimized water blocks available for Intel, but are there any legit reasons besides being part of a group? Legit (non-sponsored) performance graphs would be welcome smile.gif

Thank you,
-Ledzepp3 (TIm)

I don't see the point of going intel from a FX-8350.

Your rig is perfect as it is now. Its not like if you will gain 30 fps going to an i7 3770k. Just overclock your CPU to 5 GHZ and have fun with your rig.

There isn't much of a real-world difference between the FX-8350 and the i7 3770K as far as most can tell. If you are mostly concerned with gaming performance, you MIGHT see an increase by a few FPS, but nothing significant. However, I have read that in the F@H realm, it can be a world of a difference between AMD and Intel.

Your rig looks great as it is, I'd say hang onto what you've got and build on top of it where needed. BUT, we have somewhat similar rigs (I have an i7 3770K and a second 7970) and I would be curious to see what the benchmark performance shows in terms of differences. I would love to run a few benchmarks with you and compare our results. I think this would really help me with future builds as well!

Why would you do that. you got the top notch AMD cpu. yes it falls behind the intel in gaming by few fps. but that's because the games are intel optimized and actually intel cores handles the tasks a little bit better. Yet AMD is rising now and all coders will be working with AMD APU. so i'm very sure that your cpu will reach the expected potential soon smile.gif

Most games are not CPU intensive enough to show significant gains from the additional raw horsepower that a high end Intel CPU would provide. A more significant benefit (IMO) is that the extra horsepower is delivered along with lower power consumption.
