I have a basic build for a friend and he just wants to use the internet youtube etc (not gaming) (no overclocking)

I was looking at these CPU's and motherboards:

AMD FX-4170

760G
Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3
Asus M5A78L-M/USB3

970
Asus M5A97 R2.0
MSI 970A-G43

Or

A10 5800K

Gigabyte GA-F2A75M-HD2
Asus F2A85-M LE
MSI FM2-A85XMA-E35

I would go for an APU, it includes a GPU and for that basic system is more cheap and enough...

See if you can go A8 or A10 APU on Socket FM2 instead. It performs the same as the FX-4300 and better than the 4170, and offers better potential for future upgrades - usually at the same price. If you already have discrete graphics, you won't make use of the IGP but it'll make a nice backup.

Regarding your answer, 970 chipset is newer and supports SATAIII and USB3. 760G is carried over and used on many budget AM3+ boards probably due to over-supply. It does not support SATAIII, though some boards may support USB3. Notably, it has an integrated graphics chipset (Radeon 3000) but this is very weak and it does not even support full HD playback, making it worse than Intel's IGPs.

970 chipset are usually better for overclocking as chipsets that do not have an IGP usually get better overclocking results. It is also newer.

Of the boards you've chosen, the GA-78LMT-USB3 is one of the best 760G around, offering safe overclocking (VRM cooling) and 4 DIMM slots at an equivalent price point to other 760G boards. On the 970 side, the M5A97 R2.0 is fine, and the 970 Extreme3 has come up often as a great choice. You should avoid the 970A-G43, as it offers no VRM cooling/overclocking flexibility and the VRM setup is also risky in terms of safety.

And the 970a- UD3 is avery good board for the money - easy to stabilize ocS
