Are there any benefits of using a 64-bit CPU on a 32-bit OS

Thread Starter
I tried searching this forum but nothing of the sort came up.

Someone in another forum suggested that actually, there are a lot of tricks such as register renaming that 64 bit processors can do with the un-used parts of the chip. Its fair to say that 64 bit chips are generally faster than 32 bit ones.

I was under the impression there was no benifit. I can't even find an honest discussion anywhere without Windows X64 being used. I'm referring to using Windows XP 32-bit with a 64-bit cpu, either an AMD or an Intel.
