RAID question - Page 4

Be sure to backup all really important data... RAID0 is not a "real" RAID because it isn't redundant. Having said that, I have had no problems with my setup. It is just the idea that you are more prone to drive failure.

And be sure to sing when you install the drives and build your array.

Seriously though, basically, since you cannot stack bits on top of each other (or at least, I don't think so) in close proximity, stacking the vertically wastes less space. My friend was joking with me once that his horizontal bits were just as effective. After I went through my unstoppable speech of hos wrongness, he said "what if I position my hard drive vertically? Then my bits are horizontal, but are still using perp. technology!" I admit, that one had me stumped. I wonder if it holds any truth...

I need to stop thinking about that video or else I will have nightmares about it. I mean, in my previous nightmares the bits couldn't catch me because they had to crawl since they were horizontal. They are perpendicular now, so they can run. I have an idea, I can turn my dream sideways. This way, they will be crawling again. Wait, oh crap, I'm having one of those falling dreams again...
i know a good therapist for u
as for the raptor vs seagate id think about the 5ns seek time on raptor especially when ur doing raid 4

the perpendicular recording technology is better because it is more dense and is thus faster. (simply put) If I were to get 2 7200rpm drives I'd go w/ Seagate 7200.10 series drives. I just put together a RAID 0 array for a friend's build with 2 320GB drives for about 600GB total storage. if you go w/ the 250Gb drives make sure you get the version w/ 16mb cache, I believe I've seen an 8mb version
