What was the whole point of this post? Fan-boys at there best.

let me help you with where i was going

The point here though is that a BOOST 7950 is on par with a stock 670.

Yes, 1fps higher in Crysis 3 is beating the 7950 and 1fps lower in Farcry 3 and BF3 is losing to the 7950.

In these scenarios, we're granting the best case scenario to the 7950 with the 1600p / 3 gigs of Ram/ Factory overclocked

yet

it performs remarkably similar to a STOCK 670
so this nonsense that a 7950 just trumps a 670 is just nonsense.

So with the 670 at the biggest disadvantages here, having lower VRAM, small bus bandwidth, and stock clock....it still matches a factory OC'd 7950

I was replying to somebody's "FYI the 7950 at stock settings beats the 670 in several games" I just showed him than it takes an OC'd 7950 to match a stock 670

With brand loyalty. At the same time those that express there brands bring some really great points.
They have been fixing that for a long time. Fact is you will mico stutter when two cards have the 256bit memory interface (bus)! Dont buy 256bt cards !FIXED!

Different products have different values. Of course a sandwhich (gfx card) will be more expensive than the bread its put on (case). Its not like we see an evolution in cases every 12-14 months like we do gfx cards. The case is also mostly sheets of some alloy, pressed and molded. Gfx cards take immense amount of engineering and r&d development (read:$) and are made by an impossibly difficult process (I mean seriously, have you really though about how much knowledge it takes to cut silicon at 28nm?) That has , in most industries, horrible yield and a growing production cost.

Go argue with your mechanic about why replacing a transmission is more than a body panel and why it happens more often.

Also, BTW, the 7xxx series is killing it in folding PPD now. I get 65000ppd with my best 7970 and average 60000 ppd per 7970 on core17. So folding as a moot point now.

Apon pressing "Post" I noticed the card was OC'ed. I was sitting here thinking, either Edit and delete or just wait and see if you would miss my post biggrin.gif
But you did not, and now I must admit defeat. Well played. thumb.gif

I think its more a case that sales have stagnated in recent months, with both Nvidia and AMD having cards out for over a year. So when the adoption rate is starting to reach saturation point, you need new tricks to get in prospective buyers. One of the best ways is to slash prices. I think this is more market driven than AMD competition driven. However, either way, its a win for everyone.

I know some people will complain that its still "not enough of a decrease" but they are the same people who won't be pleased until they can get a GTX680 for $150.

But for the rest of us reasonable folk, any decrease is a welcome decrease! biggrin.gif

I'm going to play devil's advocate here. What if the GK104 was actually the midrange card? GK110 was out then, but we see it in TITAN instead of a GK104. A GTX 680 for $150 wouldn't be so far fetched. The simple fact is NVIDIA chose to go where the money is, selling to the professional/ supercomputer market instead of "wasting" GK110 on the masses. And now they get to charge you serious money for crippled GK110s.

We know Tahiti is AMD's best since S10000 and W9000 uses it.

It's basically assuming that GK104 is the best Nvidia had to offer but it's not. If Intel had released the i5-3570k priced where the i7-3770k is for example... AMD FX-8350 would look good even when it isn't that amazing. GTX 680 for $300 (what GTX 660 Ti is basically) and TITAN for $500-600 would be more like it (see HD7970 6GB Vapor-X). tongue.gif

Hello, my name is CUDA / AutoCAD / Bunkspeed/ Adobe Premiere / etc.

We should all blame AMD for not making NVIDIA sweat. And then blame developers of software for not using OpenCL.

Let's get something straight. Neither Nvidia or AMD care about price/performance.

They are both in the game to make money. If AMD could get Nvidia prices then they would.

Why do you think the 7970 was $550 and the 7950 was $450 at launch?

Because they knew they could get that price.
my sentiments exactly

as a side note, someone should try to hardware mod the SMD resistors on the GTX 650 Ti Boost to a Quadro K4000. I don't have a steady enough hand frown.gif
