On the list of most popular graphics card, AMD doesn't even show up until #8, and they have 3 products in the top 20. 680 almost doubles the 7970. And don't kid yourself, Tegra dominance is even more lopsided. Do we even want to get into company profits?

This is no more of a fight than I would be stepping in the ring with 1995 Mike Tyson.

I don't normally rep for laughs but that's something I haven't seen done in a LONG time. Tyson jabs, pretty good IMO. I think AMD has a chance to do good competition in the lower price brackets, that's where they shine and they should. Currently they have no true competition on Intel, though that is changing IMO. They also have no real competition against Nvidia. The Intel problem was, well I will blame Intel for some shady practices a while back but it should be behind us and PD is shaping up nice. Nvidia however, their company has dedicated it's entire life (almost, till recent) to GPUs. If they can't keep AMD at bay, I would be shocked. It is like a Tyson fight, AMD is good I just don't think they are that good.

However, if Linux drivers actually get on par with windows this might end up happy for me. If not, it isn't like using windows for gaming is a new thing. I'll happily make due, which I've made apparent that the card performs good. Probably better than I expected.

To the folders above, I was under the impression that AMD had a bit more of an edge on the computing aspect. Raw maffs powa! idk, does Nvidia still do better in folding type applications? Makes me want to see how this card folds compared to my 460, I'm now curious.

mushroom boy, most 7950's overclock to 7970 levels quite easily. Therefore they are definitely comparable to a 670. That was benchers point. It sounds like you had a bad experience and are trying to pass it off as fact.

I do, personally. I started coming here because I wanted to custom build my own machine and get the best performance for my dollar for what I needed at the time. Being able to build a computer that has higher end components and gaming performance that most (if not all) of what you can find at a local retailer for a fraction of the cost is a useful skill to have and I find it quite enjoyable too.

If you play an hour or two a day and like to spend that playing planetside 2 with a couple of your buddies do you go for a deal which gives you a game you're not interested in or the one that gives you $50 to spend in the game that you actually play?

How can you define something by it's OC ability and then not even define the teir above as having that same quality? Especially if they are binned from the same process? A 7950 is a 7970 chopped up. Do 7970s not overclock to have performance above a 7950 OCd? That's my point. And my card does perform on par with a stock 670/7970, I'm just not stupid enough to say those cards aren't better. They OC too, with the same chances of performance gain as what I got. It's called being real, saying one product can beat another product hands down off a random variable, that's asinine.

So I say again, the product is solid for the price and you will get performance out of it. Just don't be foolish and believe your card has more potential than another card based off random variables. Just sayin.

Citation needed again.

What you and many others fail to see is that the F2P bundle is there to bring in sales for NV from the F2P crowd that's getting bigger and bigger. How it's a stupid idea is beyond me, sounds like a good idea tbh, cater to a market that isn't getting catered to. At least sales wise NV isn't doing badly, just check out the steam surveys, the 600 series has sold much better than the 7000 series.

And I don't know how it's over there but If I bought an NV card here I'd get the free to play bundle and some new-ish game like Borderlands 2 or AC3 on top of that. With my Titan I got $150 F2P credits and AC3, not that it matters when you're buying a titan.

^ Dude's got a point FTP has blown up and shown it makes a massive income. It brings in hardware sales even without bringing in money to the software developer, though they easily make the money back from development. TF2?

[edit] Though I do agree, AAA games is a better deal. However their are people out, which are fanatics about F2P.

I'm not a fan of either camp in fact i've been green for most of the years since i started building. How do you figure AMD isn't competition to Nvidia? Or am i misinterpreting your post?

As of right now at least excluding Titan AMD competes across the board. The 7970 stock is usually between the 670 and 680 and trades blows with the both (really varies between sites), the Ghz edition is usually on par to a little faster than the 680 albeit costing the same if not more. When you factor in overclocking and price a 7970/7950 is a hell of a deal. Their driver team has improved leaps and bounds since the past couple of years as well. For 300$ a 7950 is hard to beat if your looking for a GPU that wont break the bank IMO. Sure OCing isn't guaranteed but most 7000 series cards are pretty decent overclockers.

BTW i'm currently going through a bad experience with XFX and their 7970 so if you went through anything like that i feel your pain, selling the SOB after though. Anyhow i picked up a reference Diamond and so far i'm impressed.

If you were to hold a survey of those that would rather have the AMD free gaming bundle, or the nvidia F2P crap you'd more than likely see overwhelming results in favor of amd. I don't know a single person that plays anything F2p. Usually those games are trash.
