XSPC Razor 7970 Blocks

Thread Starter
I've just purchased two of these for my 7950's, I was told that they would fit reference 7950's which I have. Turns out they don't but about 4mm.. mad.gif
I just accidentally spilled water all over the 7950 too, gotta run with a single air-cooled card for a couple of days now. mad.gif

EDIT: Second card is up and running like normal but the cooler just stopped working on it.

Seeing as the store I purchased it from hasn't replied in quite some time. It's been so long I actually forgot because I have been busy with Uni and family problems that are still ongoing.

I just flicked XSPC an email to let them know of my situation, I should most definetly have my $170 back in a couple of days hopefully. (I need it badly right now)
Code:
I have purchased two of your Razor 7970 waterblocks from GAMMODS, I checked the compatability with your site, which said that it would fit a reference 7970 and 7950. Upon attempting to install your block to my Sapphire and it wouldn't fit due to the capacitors on my card being in the way with your block. The same goes for the HIS IceQ Turbo 7950 that I have.

The specific 7950 models I have are:
HIS: http://www.hisdigital.com/un/product2-693.shtml
Sapphire: http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1157&lid=1&pid=1450&leg=0

For verification the PCB of the Sapphire looks like this:
http://www.coolingconfigurator.com/upload/pictures/Sapphire-Radeon-HD-7950-3GB-GDDR5-%2811196-00-40G%29-PCB.jpg

The 7970 Reference PCB:
http://cdn.overclock.net/a/a0/a014c15f_7970-PCB.jpeg

As you can tell there is a difference between the cards and your website (Along with the retailers website, and various other ones selling your cards) are all wrong in stating that your blocks will fit a Reference 7950.

Legally I am obliged to a money back due to not the product not being of the compatibility/specification that has been advertised on your website and all over your retailers websites.

Cheers

EDIT: Not the best grammar but they'll get the idea.. I'm really tired and rushing it for an assignment that is due soon.

Sorry to hear this frown.gif

Is it the razor 7970 new style or the old one where it says "Full cover VGA waterblock for ATI 7970 and 7950 cards" coz I am considering this one as well, I also have 7950s but I am not sure if it can fit, still digging this.

The old style, they were only $85 a piece but it's still the hassle and the point of returning them. Well I am a uni student so $170 is quite a reasonable amount of cash to me actually.

EDIT: I would suggest water-cooling your CPU first just to get into it rather then go straight to GPU's.

Bump! Retailer/Seller is contacting XSPC regarding the blocks not fitting, I'm keen to get my $170 back. rolleyes.gif
And for them to fix their website/retailers websites to mention that it will not fit reference 7950's etc.

I'll hold off a bit to get new blocks now. Shame as it was the whole reason why I got the water loop =.=

Who told you they'd fit a 7950?

You know, technically 7950 reference design was supposed to be a 7970 pcb! But lst minute AMD changed the design to what is now considered the reference 7950 pcb. This obviously is a change from the Cayman which shared the same pcb as well. Technically xspc's page is correct. But did you have someone direct you to that conclusion?

The XSPC page AND the store page had "Compatible with reference 7970 and 7950 blocks"

I'll link you to both..

Store link, notice how it says reference only?
XSPC, notice how they say the same thing?

I understand that the store pretty much copies it and that he has no idea. But XSPC should have known, I did my research to find out that I have "reference 7950" cards. (The coolingconfigurator states that) the PCB layout states that, a review site had a block on the HIS card and stated that because it is reference they can do that, they both have the AMD logo on them. I can run reference BIOS' on them fine too.

To me that makes me think it's 100% reference and upon reading "Works with AMD reference only" makes me think that it'll fit. I did not know that AMD changed it at the last moment, I can see that the 7970 has less capacitors (hence why it fits better) - Cheaper capacitors added together? Anyway I still think I should get my money back because that is false marketing on XSPC's behalf.

The real problem is your card isn't built on a reference HD7950/HD7950 PCB.

I have a thread dedicated to HD7950s that are built on reference HD7950 PCB design.

Yep I know, I actually bought my Sapphire one (it was claimed to be a 11196-40G card) - the 7970 PCB one and it wasn't, that doesn't bother me as both cards match.
They should have "7970 only" on the website, because that is mis-leading. Again just putting it out there that it won't fit "Reference" cards. (and hopefully getting my $170 back) rolleyes.gif

Important to get a visual on any HD79XX at this point in time before ordering block because the PCB design is changing all the time. I'm glad you are getting help with your problem and I hope you get your money back.

Yeah, I assume that this, would work for when I get a new set of blocks?
Rightfully by law I will, I'll make a big deal about it if they don't.

EDIT: Looks like they will from pictures, it has the required space for the extra row of caps on reference 7950 cards.
