Admin Password Problems

Thread Starter
Hey all ...

I hope you can help me ... I have a slightly annoying problem that I am sure has a pretty easy solution and yet, I just can't think of it ...

I was given a laptop to fix ... the problem is that the company that owns the laptop put a password on the machine that no one can remember, they want to know if I can bypass or crack the password so that they don't lose all their docs on the laptop ...

Is it possible with Win7 to bypass user passwords to gain access to windows ? ...

All information would be greatly appreciated.
Regards.

If it is a windows based machine use OPH crack. That works perfectly.

If not encrypted, you can just read the hard disk on other computer to retrieve the data.
OPH crack is good if you want to retrieve the password back, and the password is not complicated. If the OS is windows XP and below, it will be a lot faster as the max length of the hash is of 7 characters only.

Or you can try to reset the password using this one
http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/
This may or may not work, and may crash the system. Do not use this if got encrypted file using windows encryption, may have some issue.

Was it connected to the office's domain?

I'm asking because usually work computers that are connected to a company's network usually have a user account and password that can only be used while the computer is connected to the company network.

No it wasn't connected to the Domain. it's a standalone laoptop that they normally use for business trips ...

I will try OPH crack (the disk without install obviously as I can't get access to install) and will report back ... ... the office isn't in a hurry and I have severely limited bandwidth at home ... so I am waiting for the 1st ... lol

I agree that OPH Crack is a good program. I usually use the included utility on Hiren's to reset/unlock the local admin account.
