Comp completely dead ;o(

Thread Starter
(forgive my noobness, since this is the first comp i have ever built and first major problem i have had to deal with, please have patience with me)------Anyways, so i left for my class this morning, turned off my rig, and everything was fine and dandy. Come home later this evening and now it will not turn on!! nothing, no fans, beeps, or anything, just a green light from my motherboard comes on. I've been oc'd now for about 5months(had comp for about a year now), but temps have been kept around 32idle and 45load, so i assume it's not heat related...

-checked all outer cables, everything secure, even tried a spare psu cable
-tried a differnt surge protector, but nothing?

any suggestions? so far i've been told to switch out ram and clean out dust.
sorry if i posted in the wrong forum!

Your power supply might be dead, try using other PSU.

His mobo is getting power, hence the green light, but it may still be psu related. Try things component by component to find out the problem. Check your case jumpers to make sure that power button works.

If the psu was working fine, then the fans would definetly come on. If your fans arent working then it is DEFINETLY a psu problem.

Try powering on the PSU manually without anything connected.

The green light can be on while the PSU fans are off.

I agree with LembasBread, check every connection and component; then if it does not work, get a new power supply and try that.

Test the 12V and 5V rail with a multi-meter. You will have to jump the PSU (pins 14 & 15...I think...its the green one and of the Black grnd wires on either side.)

Your fans may still spin, but there might not be enough voltage in the line to kick everything on....

just musing...

Most likely it is PSU related... and it could be a number of different reasons why the PSU isn't doing right... if you have a spare PSU laying around, just try it that to see what happens

I have a lot of extra PSUs... I don't know why. I mean, I only buy 1-2 PSUs per comp since when I buy one, I use it until it breaks (only had 1 break, though). Buy a quality PSU. A lot of people cheap out on them and they regret it later. Not only will you save money, but you will have a lower chance of PSU failure, which can often ruin everything in your comp except a NIC or something.

Also, I'm gay. I'm glad I could tell some people.
