I do get your point. I played skyrim a bit and it is smoother now but the stutter never distracted me when I was playing it. Saying that, playing it now as it is smoother I would probably notice if I went back and played it with old drivers.
Witcher 2 is another dx9 game which was supposed to be really stuttering, i put many an hour into that game and the stuttering never distracted me from the game. It is smoother now but it was never bad enough before for me to consider complaining about or thinking there was a technical problem with amd drivers.
Again having experienced smoother gameplay with newer drivers I would probably notice it more if I went back to old drivers.

That would highly depend on the distro. You could have a really slim set up, but the desktop experience would not likely compare to Windows.

Since Linux was brought up, is it plausible that the stuttering problem might be (partially) rooted into optimization (in Windows environment)?
just thought of it and it is very likely that it isn't true at all but i mainly base this on all of those AMD driver problems that their source is transition from green to red. IIRC Nvidia is installing on the kernal when using the driver and gets more into the "guts" of the Windows OS than AMD and while up till now it is only the source of uninstalling problems it could also mean that Nvidia has less stuttering because of the "deep connection" (no dirty pun intended rolleyes.gif ) to the OS thus AMD has less optimization and more stutter.

i am aware this all sounds like a AMD fan boy argument and even conspiratorial but just thought of it and who knows it might have some tiny grain of truth. (especially because Windows isn't the perfect OS just the most common one)

they both install "on the kernel", a driver is nothing but modulated kernel code (hence linux uses the name module). That's all a driver is, a snippet of code that gets inserted into the kernel at runtime. =O Who whoulda thunk it?

well, thanks for the explanation. (everyday you learn something new. at a second read i kinda realized it does sound a bit silly but i already knew before it that it might be rubbish smile.gif )

but still i remember that there is still a problem with NV drivers when installing AMD ones. (as you have seen i'm not the best one at this but IIRC some registry files or something)

AMD bagged the GPU price:performance crown this gen so obviously it's hard for AMD fans to admit their cards only provide brute performance during rendering but don't provide a smooth experience on the user end thumb.gif

In the end, I'm glad to hear AMD is willing to fix their issues.

AWWW Sad to hear! I just sold my babies and I already miss them. =P Those were the best two cards I've ever owned, hands down one of the best jumps in tech for GPUs. That's my opinion, love those lil' devils.
