Since when the F is electric technology hybrid? And to your other point. Electric powered cars should be becoming the STANDARD just because of their efficiency and 0 emissions. Cars like the P1 and LaFerrari do not benefit from this technology and its more for a showoff than anything else. If I didn't love my GTR so much I'd jump on the Tesla Model S immediately though.

And the other point a Ferrari without the Ferrari sound is not a Ferrari either just as much as an SLS AMG is not a SLS without the v8 rumble. It is what it is but this is the future.

I think the big thing that is hindering development of electric cars is charging, not the power of the car. Hybrids already have that sorted out. They have capacitors that absorb the energy from regenerative braking and use that energy for hard acceleration. The problem is they take long to charge and there aren't very many charging stations compared to gas stations. I don't even know of any charging stations where I live.

Even if they get that sorted out, it'll never be cheaper than a gasoline vehicle. And if you think you are avoiding gas costs, have fun getting taxed an arm and a leg when you renew your registration.

What? Tesla shutting down? No. They're going strong actually and they're manufacturing more and more cars every week. Recently hit 500 Model S a week IIRC from an article I read last week.

The lack of chargers is the number one issue. With a Tier 3 charger or "super charger" as Tesla calls their variant you can charge 150 miles worth of range in about 30 minutes. IMO that's good enough.

The second issue is cost like you said and the number one part that's responsible for that cost is the battery pack.

The lack of chargers is mostly a chicken and egg type of issue. There aren't many chargers as there aren't that many EV's on the road and people don't by EV's due to the lack of charging points.

The batteries on the other hand are a bigger issue. While great strides have been made in the last 10 years namely the advent of lithium-ion as they are much lighter and have much better energy density making them a great fit for EV's. Unfortunately they are expensive and that's not a manufacturing issue as they are already made at a massive scale. So either the Li-ion batter must by some miracle be made cheaper or a new type of batter has to be invented as none in there right mind wants to pay the insane price of swapping out the pack on a second hand EV.

Well there is actually a third issue that is regional and that is snow and cold weather. Sub zero temps will reduce battery efficiency, the defrosting aka the heater will eat up considerable amount of power and the snow ice increase rolling resistance and reduce grip. All that cuts down on the range considerably and limit EV's feasibility in northern parts of the world.

Its not all bad though as EV's also have some good cold weather features like the fact that they will always start/run and you get hot air form the heater instantly.

The next time I will read/listen to the more weight = more grip, I will....don't know...I'm sure I will so...

The "benefits" of added "grip" with extra weight cannot overcome the added inertia and loss in dynamic characteristics. EVAR.

Big cars have "better grip" cause usually have bigger threads. Not because they are heavier.

There is only one thing race cars and performance machines of ANY kind strive for: reduced weight. Look what a street-legal Radical SR1 or a Caterham Super 7 can do.
