That combined experience is cost as much as a decent gaming PC which potentially gives both a better gaming and general PC experience.
Yes but lets say I spend 1000 on a pc and console combo at the start of a new gen for my day to day use that pc will last me years if its just for internet and lite use and the console will still play all of the new release well. VS your 1000 dollar pc you just build how well will its play games 5 to 7 years from now will it run the latest title at the same way as the console or will I need to up date it so it can.
You can not compare a pc vs console they are on different levels for one console are plug and play vary little work is need to get on line throw the disk in an off we go killing, racing or what ever. There is no work need in getting it to do any this it updates it self its design for ever one to be able to use from a 5 year old to a 75 year old hell I had a hard time try to show my grand dad how to use a tablet so he can read one of his mags that went all digital do you think he could under stand a pc its just designed for different demographics.
Not say the pc is not the way to go hell I am saving up right now to build a new rig but that not stopping me from picking up a new ps4 and xbox720 I like both for different reason I play rts they suck on a console and I think rpg are better on pc to but I love racing games and the console just more fun then the pc for them and I find I like console fps multilayer it can be fun if you get in with a good group its all relative.

Watch these consoles put out the same or near same quality as your pc.

I disagree. Crysis 2 plays like crap (and I'm assuming crysis 3 but not sure) along on consoles. The fps constantly drops BELOW 30fps completely unplayable. Same thing happens with Halo 4 on occasion and ESPECIALLY WHEN playing multiplayer with split screen. The current gen consoles can't even handle the games that are crafted specifically for their hardware. Many games drop below 30fps on a console and personally 30fps just is not even enough in the first place.....doh.gif
http://www.lensoftruth.com/feature-crysis-2-frame-rate-analysis/

Also my old PC with an 8800gt from 5-6+ years ago can play BF3 at the same resolutions as the console version. There isn't a game I've found yet that my 8800gt can't play (besides the ones that are dx11 only). And it can play crysis 2 just fine at a higher resolution than consoles.

http://www.geforce.com/optimize/guides/crysis-2-benchmarks#6 Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Quote:
GeForce 8800 GT: Given the minimum system requirements we knew that the 8800 GT could run Crysis 2, but were unsure of how well the venerable GPU would run the game at our chosen resolutions. Thankfully the results surprised us, showing that the 8800 GT can run Crysis 2 just fine at High settings at 1680x1050 and below. The resolution can be increased to 1920x1200, but performance drops to the mid-thirties and may result in some sub-thirty gameplay in the most graphically demanding scenarios. Alternatively the 880GT can play Crysis 2 on Very High settings at 1680x1050, but with an average frame rate of 33 the likelihood of sub-thirty frame drops is high, resulting in a worse overall experience than running High settings at 1920x1200.

Recommend Optimal Playable Setting: High at 1680x1050 (Average FPS = 43.2)

43fps average with an 8800gt in crysis 2 at 1050P which is much higher than the console version.

Whether you buy a $1k PC now or a $500 console and $500 pc, you will be able to play the latest games down the road. So might as well just go with the PC that can be upgraded if you want cool things that you can't do on a console (3d gaming, surround resolution, custom mods for games, etc.).

Your 660ti, like mine, costs roughly twice as much.
At that point you're looking at a different class of GPU.

And don't give me the "yes but I'm comparing performance". Consoles are not performance parts, their focus is on economic scaling and code optimization.

How is this bad? This is leaps and bounds better than current consoles. You guys complain about it not being as good as new hardware, but if we were to stick 660TIs in every XBox we would have to pay $500-600 for it. Consoles are not PCs and they are not meant to replace PCs. Stop trying to compare the two.

You fail totally at seeing what the larger market is.

$400 console + $100 or $200 dollar phone or tablet.

I hate to say this, but PC's and even laptops are moving back to being a niche product for us geeks. The public hates PC's, they represent work and hassle. The public wants iPhones / iPads or their android brethern(devices with no intent to do anything but entertain).

I am pretty sure most decent phones and tablets cost a fair bit more than this unlocked, where they are largely sold outside of USA.

No it wouldn't, the GPU in the PS4 is between the 7850 and the 7870 in power.

No doubt the so-called "next gen" (more like cheap pc) consoles will be far ahead of current consoles but they still won't have anything on a current high end rig. When we see a console running surround resolutions then we can talk..

This argument is pure elitism at it's worst. Of course it will not be competitive with a high end gaming rig, thank you captain obvious, nor should it. The console as an entire system will sell for less than many high end gaming video cards and you think it was somehow going to be competitive with those?
