I require a few things when looking into buying a tablet:
- able to use word, excel, ppt
- able to insert a usb OR microsd card to transfer files
- able to access mail and social media websites
- able to use camera and some sort of book reading app (pdf is fine)

MOST IMPORTANTLY
- thinner and lighter the better

If you need Office you're stuck with Windows 8 and for that price the Surface RT. If you simply need a program that can read and edit Office files then both Android and IOS have apps that can do that. In that case you can just pick up a Nexus Tablet or Ipad.

I think the majority of people who buy tablets do so to replace a computer they don't use. For basic web browsing and email, they can't be beat.

For you, Surface Pro 128GB

The Mrs:

Facebook
Gaming (Angry Birds, Candy Crush etc)
Light web browsing
Videos
E-reader

Me:

Java development

You really need to be looking for something like Surface Pro if you want Excel etc, or even Windows RT. Unfortunately Surface Pro still hasn't been released in the UK yet

to put it simply "Tablets are for consumption NOT creation."

Great for reading a document but a hassle for creating one.

I use an iPad given by my school and i use it to make notes, gather information outside books and create presentations mostly.
I use apps like evernote, explain everything, penultimate, etc etc. It's really handy.
I don't like the device itself it's way too simplistic for me, as a pc power user i find the entire system somehow childish like... rolleyes.gif
And ofc apple would require me to get iphone, mac and appleTV and everything to get all out of my ipad. I also generally dislike Apple policies and such.

Amazon instant video while on the potty
checking the weather in the morning
tapatalk
checking email
lurking slickdeals
occasional game
book reading
light youtube action

Ipad Mini has been perfect for this.

I've had my galaxy tab 10.1 for around a year now. I primarily use it for:

Browsing while watching tv
Playing games
Accessing motor alldata, snapon shop key, and napafix while under the hood at work
Using it as a scan tool with torque
Watching youtube videos
Streaming music on occasion

if you want to save cash and 10 inch are nice get an asus transformer tf 300 ...at least a quad core and tegra 3.
its a tablat witrh a docking station and docked you can use it as a netbook.

http://www.asus.de/Tablet/ASUS_Transformer_Pad/ASUS_Transformer_Pad_TF300T/

require a few things when looking into buying a tablet:
- able to use word, excel, ppt,,, ....sure
- able to insert a usb OR microsd card to transfer files of course.. microSD and SD / usb / bluetooth
- able to access mail and social media websites wifi / and 3g or lte version if you need it
- able to use camera and some sort of book reading app (pdf is fine) bunch of apps.. you will damn the playstore

MOST IMPORTANTLY
- thinner and lighter the better the tf300 is thin imho..
- budget of AUD600 should fit even for 3G .. just compare many sites to get the best offer

its a droid device and there are plenty of apps for any kind of stuff to do.
for a little bit more cash you can get the 3g version if you need mobile internet.

you can use it as a cam with its fullHD 8mp cam, connect a mouse to it or a tv via hdmi.
it has 32gb memory on it.

maybe you want to wait until nvidia releases its 2 new chip generations for android devices.
that should be about summer and at the end of the year..
