I think that his analysis is insightful. Nvidia wants a larger share of the discreet graphic market , where it has its core competency, while conceding to AMD's market leading position with the console partners, in a market that has been identified as a growth segment by industry analysts.
Nvidia would hope that further consolidation of the discreet graphic market would provide it with some market leverage with brand loyalists once it figures out how to effectively compete with Intel igpu at one of the spectrum to console platforms at the other, as we continue to see these various technologies break the bounds of traditional territories with clear boundaries, as it once held true. But, Nvidia is a very well capitalized company which gives it plenty of options to push various hot buttons with potential platform partners. Not to mention its R&D spend that could result in a better outcome one day than what was exhibited at CES2013 for portable gaming.

At the time of my purchase my 670 was $400 and the cheapest 7970 was $450 so nvidia was winning price wise for me at that. I also absolutely loved physx in arkham city which is another bonus I got. Ability to add custom sli bits and ao bits and SGSSAA to my games that didn't have proper anti-aliasing (like dishonored), drivers releasing on the same day most of the time with new games to support them. Finally, there is 3d vision which I have been using with my cheap red cyan 3d glasses which looks amazing and allowed me to experience new amazing gameplay.

Now let's say I'd have gotten the 7970 instead. A few more frames in some games, better tress fx performance and ... that's pretty much it. But I would have been set back another $50. The $20 difference now is better but you still get my point.

You should compare the GTX 670 to the 7950. GTX 680 to the 7970.

Its funny, hahahaha. Nvidia has sliced their price since Monday and you are all excited by Nvidia being less expensive, why don't you talk about the other year and a half. doh.gifdoh.gifdoh.gif

(Oh and they cut the price on the GTX 650ti boost, which nobody on OCN cares about)

Nvidia price cut will force AMD to drop their price too...Winners ??? US.

Not like NVIDIA has been the underdog for years. This kind of thing is good because hopefully they'll be putting out better price/performance cards next gen.

I don't know about that, I don't think anyone has really tried to quantify it properly until the Techreport test and even so it was only a glaring problem with 12.11, previous drivers were not great but not terrible. Hence the problem was really just a vague rumour or slight annoyance, like saying that you could fry an egg on Fermi...

I think AMD just needed that prod to get working on the issue, and no we know what to look for, and how to quantify it, hopefully they will continue to keep an eye on it.
