Computer BOOTUP Issue - potentially GPU???

I am writing this on behalf of my friend, who can't get his computer to turn on properly.

When he turns on the power, the computer posts fine and proceeds to windows normally. When it says "Windows is Starting," when that finishes he hears his gpu fans sort of reset from a lower speed and back to normal, then the whole screen turns black. He can hear the windows bootup sound but the screen is black. He can go on the bios and see it just fine, but the black screen only happens when windows loads up.

He has a Gigabyte 670 Windforce.

Yes I had this issue with a netbook where it would go blank at the same time. Sometimes it would work after doing a repair by hitting f8 before bootup and sometimes it wouldn't, the only cure was a fresh installation and it would work great for months, I think the hdd was bad.

Have you tried another video card in the system?or onboard video.

Have you tried doing a repair?

This issue has been solved. It didn't have anything to do with the gpu or windows/hdd at all. He booted it with one ram stick and it worked perfectly, so I guess he's gonna rma that one stick. Thanks for your help
