Overclocked GTX670 SLi vs Overclocked 7950 CFx? 750W Bronze PSU

Thread Starter
Hey guy, My 7970 kinda blew up today and while i RMA i was thinking about what to next. First of all, i'm not sure my RMA will even go through because i did some out of warranty stuff to try and cool it and keep it quiet.

One of the two biggest factors keeping me from getting a second 7970 was stutter with CFX and my PSU - I know it can handle a stock 7970 CFX config but i wasn't sure if it could handle OCd cards. I know i will have no issues running overclocked 670s but how will 2 7950s do? I feel like 7950s are much better bang for buck then 670s and they come with games i want.

How well do GTX670s overclock? i know they run at some high boost clocks but how much higher than their boost can they OC and how well are the returns? Having an excellent experience with both my 570s and 7970 i am not brand loyal, i do however feel AMD gives you more for your money. But i have not done much research into the 670s overclocking abilities and i find the lower power envelope a nice plus.

So OC 670 sli or OC 7950 CFx?

well for now cfx has stuttering issue, but I recon once the 7950 is overclock it will be a tad bit faster than an overclocked 670.
The 7950s would be the better bang for buck. While Nvidia generally have better multi-card drivers, but AMD has been making huge improvements in recent months. Overclocked you'll get about equal performance out of them.

Your PSU should be able to handle 2 cards without issue.

Not sure about this. They will most likely be on par.

I combined all the Crossfire 7950 and GTX 670 results for you. (Yes more GTX 670 results and still the HD 7950 is in front, but not by much.)

I don't see any micro-stutterring for Dual GPUs on AMD side

And your PSU is PLENTY wink.gif

I had a Evga gtx 670 here i messed around with for a few days. At stock it boosted to 1215mhz. They are all different obvisouly but it honestly didn't perform a whole lot worse than my 680 lightning at stock clocks. I haven't personally messed with a 7950 but i have heard that xfire with them does have issues for certain people. Finally, if you haven't taken notice. If you go to newegg. Almost all of the top teir 680's and 7970's are "discontinued". Not exactly sure what is coming out because amd said nothing new for 2013 and the titan just launched but i would think something is possibly dropping in Q2 coming up here.

They will be on par when all is overclocked and done. You just have to decide where your brand loyalty is and decide from there, and if the 670 is worth the extra money. If it where me, the 7950's since they are cheaper and you will get basically equal performance, just make sure you pick a model with unlocked voltage.

Hey General - I've been out of the AMD realm for a while, what brand cards have unlocked voltages.

SAPPHIRE 100352-3L Radeon HD 7950 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

289$ With Crysis 3 and Bioshock infinite

Voltage Unlocked

All Dual-X and also Vapor-X reported to be unlocked lately.I don't know about the FleX but I would personnally aim for Sapphire Boost edition cards.

Thanks KaRLiToS, with a picture as well, that is awesome +rep.

This is the one I'm looking at if I decide to move away from my SLI'd 570s http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1311&products_id=20405

This worries me. I bought my second Gtx570 afew months before the 7970 launch and while I was happy with them back then, the 7970Ghz performs within 10% of sli Gtx570s now. I don't want to pay top dollar for something that will be rendered irrelevant in 2-3 months - holiday 2013 is fine, any sooner is not. Where is nvidias standing in this? I really should buy die shrinks on launch lol...

Thanks guys (thanks for the charts karlitos) so it seems that when both are OCd they are on par which is what I was looking for.
