[Kotaku] Watch 17 Minutes of Battlefield 4 Gameplay, Right Here - Page 43

I just hope they learned from their mistakes in BF3. Suppression is ridiculous and client side hit detection is even more. They also need to make every weapon somewhat competitive, not just M16's and AEK's.

The whole server side/client side hit detection is not really that relevant. BF2 used server side, BF3 used client side... BF3 is a looot better, I personally have not had any trouble... but it goes to show that the problems are more to do with the netcode itself, not where it's located.

The concept of suppression is correct, but it's a hard thing to implement. The concept of the visual distortion is so that they can keep relatively good accuracy. In real life, your aim is affected.. but in a game, you're always using a mouse, so your aim is going to be nigh perfect. To offset using artificial inaccuracy, they have to somehow reduce your ability to aim manually.

Quite how they can improve, i'm not sure... it's a hard thing to emulate.

I guess they can have different penalties for different classes of guns.

High fire rate guns with high accuracy get affected the most
Then Semi-auto rifles
Then LMGs and carbines
Finally Bolt actions that get suppressed very little.

THey could also reduce the accuracy penalty as well.

Completely agree with the hit detection issue, so many people beggin for serverside claiming that BF2 or BC2 had the best netcode ever... leads me to think that they've never actually played any of those games because hit detection was terrible in BC2.

There's actually a lot different about FB3, although they're very subtle changes. They've changed a lot of the small things which help with immersion which is arguably more important than anything else at this point. If you go watch the BF3 fault line trailer then this, you'll notice a lot of those subtle changes.

Also, aircraft only explode if it's a kill-shot. They do go out of control when disabled. That's not really a limitation of the engine, but a design choice. tongue.gif

I don't want it to be "over balanced" which what i felt they did in the last game. They felt Aircraft was OP in BF2 which admittedly it was but if people actually took the time to take them down it wasn't that difficult. There was nothing like actually being able to help out a squad by dropping bombs on a tank. Now they've slapped everyone with stingers and its much harder to take a tank down, i felt it kind of made aircraft irrelevant as far as the ground game was concerned. The people in the air just kinda go against each other than supporting the guys on the ground. Also why limit the A10 to freaking rush, conquest is BF always has been. It's just got some things that really bug me.

Teamwork is also very rare, i know people hate the commander and you could get some commanders that were idiotic. But by the chance that you had a good commander it really creates teamwork. Been playing the last couple of days and noticed when my team starts to lose an objective the entire team rushes towards it. Because of the lack of communication noone says "hey some of us need to stay and defend". Bringing back commander would do wonders for it in my eyes. Also adding another faction fighting Russians has been really played out. я не люблю lol

As far as current issues hit detection is still pretty bad IMO. Call me nostalgic for loving BF2 but some of it's features would've been greatly appreciated in BF3/4

VoIP would go a long way towards increasing teamwork. Having to repeatedly type stuff in chatbox is the worst thing ever (can't move or aim while typing).

Looks Impressive!

Really enjoyed Battlefield 3, had some very memorable moments playing multiplayer. (Most of them good)

Really hoping for a more comprehensive single player experience this time round. I know the Battlefield franchise isn't renowned for it's single player, however the Bad Company series showed us they are more than capable of something decent. (At least in my opinion). This video seems to point towards a better single player, so fingers crossed!

Either way, I'm really looking forward to playing this one.

Forgot to mention that as well. Why is there no VoIP? Did they give us an explanation for that?

Because EA wants to make more dollar and to do that game devs need to put less work into products.
