I wish gameplay demos looked more like how actual people play. The new Rising Storm video from Tripwire did a decent job of this imho.

There's so little sprinting, absurdly slow aiming, etc. There's a part in the elevator where the player sprays randomly at the helicopter and shakes around, and while some players might do that, I think it's just another thing to try to make it seem more realistic/cinematic. If they're selling a game, why not show off the game and not what the game is trying to be? A game should have a focus on being a game.

I think if a singleplayer gameplay demo would look considerably worse with a random guy playing than with a scripted performer, that's a problem. For an example, there's a scene in Red Faction: Armageddon where the player walks that digger robot (fairly early on) through a tunnel, and it looks great, animations are nice, atmosphere is built up. However, if you walk to closely to the edges of the tunnel where the ground slopes up, the animations look really weird because the model bounces around a bunch on the uneven terrain, shattering the immersion.

If a game focuses on being a game, that immersion is much harder to break, but if it focuses on being a movie, or being very realistic, it's very easy to break. With some games, it works out, an example would be the little hop in the air guys in RO2 do sometimes when you shoot them (headshot prone german, he flies three feet straight up into the air). but for other games it's awful like in BF3 singleplayer because of how it was designed. I can go into more detail on the BF3 part if anybody wants me to tongue.gif

EDIT: on a side note I think BF4 looks like a solid update to BF3 so far, and considering how much better BF3 has gotten over the years, I think BF4 will bring a lot to the table right out of the gate. Solid graphical updates and destruction looks like it's turned up. Glad to see less blue. They need to tone down the sun though.

After seeing textures like this in Crysis 3 the flat crap in BF4 will not cut it...... Someone should educate DICE on something called Parralax Occlusion Mapping.

Ehhh, I'm not impressed yet. It just like like an updated BF3 since it still retains the same sound effects, Russian soldier skins, weapon skins, etc. They even used some assets from MoH Warfighter such as the shotgun and the side iron side. I'm not really surprised since MoH Warfighter did use the same engine, so it makes sense.

Back in my day when games had rehashes where they added new maps and/or models, New campaigns etc it was called an expansion. This meant you knew you were buying a rehash but it was OK because they straight up told you it was gonna be the SAME GAME just with new maps etc. And they weren't the full price of a new game because they were in fact just an expansion.

Nowadays companies want you to repay for a rehash expansion like it was a brand new different game even though it is the same as the previous one.
