Yea this thread is clearly turning into a case of he said she said or in the case of OCN he said he said.

Go play now, you can vote a commander out if you don't like him. We did often. Maybe 1/10 games had a crap commander, or no commander because no one wanted to or knew what they were doing in the role. Those games were imbalanced if the other team had even a half decent commander. Just find another server and move on. Nice thing about back then, was we'd find a few servers and we could always expect them to have decently balanced teams. Was a good group of regulars for being a pub server. Not that I got to know any of them.

I was speaking about rewarding players with points since zero deemed there was no point in using a soflam cause you do not get alot of points. Obviously spotting in both bf2 and 3 will allow your allies to identify and attack vehicles and makes the soflam in bf3 even more important.

I played bf2 and bf3 both pub and guess what; sometimes the teams were bad and sometimes the teams were good but 90% of the time in both games the teams were bad; that is not a reflection on the games themselves but the community. Again your idea of the perfect commander and squad leader does not reflect 90% of the matches in bf2 just like how in bf3 there is rarely a perfect anti vehicle squad; 1 sniper with a soflam, 2jav engies and a support with an ammo bag. But when there is its pretty much death for vehicles on the map.

Ironically the most teamwork oriented and strategic match I had in bf pub game was in bf3. It was on karkand, enemy vehicles was pretty much killing our team's head on approach into the city, what was worse they had a soflam positioned in an excellent spot that spelled death for the abrams and lav 25 we had allowing their t90 and btr to easily stop the infantry. A squad which consisted of my friend and a couple of cool dudes we just met on battlelog rolled in with silencers and tried to take the back point where their vehicles spawn, sucessfully took it and prepared for the immediate counterattack, which we stopped when the rest of the team came in; without this point they lost their access to vehicles. Both teams stepped up their game towards the end with regular soflam and jav use and even MAV use. The match was literally down to the wire with the score being 2 tickets to 0 or something. What was better I have never seen team's evolve in a match like that, going from playing horrible to a competent team. Our team clearly saw how deadly the soflam was when used against us and used it immediatly to stop the counterattack against the gates and warehouse.

Health regen drastically reduces the need for a medic...and repairs to some extent, but vehicles will die if they get too much damage. Health should really work the same. Medics don't only revive...they are also supposed to prevent death. Now people will just charge and hope to get the first bullet in and outlast me...hide for a bit or keep running and get back to full health.

I've only played about 80 hours of BF3 now...but I am pretty sure I've never seen a SOFLAM used. I haven't seen any one spotting with a ugly pair of binoculars at least...or are they setup on a tripod? The idea sounds awesome. How does it work? Do jets then get ground kills easier or is there some other kind of guided weaponry? Does it help the stingers and Javelins some how? I have only used them in real life...depending on how this works that is a pretty big team work encouragement...however, in all the BF3 threads where it has been bashed for not encouraging team work this is the first I've seen them mentioned. So I don't know what the means for how much they are used...I know just because I haven't seen them means nothing, but not hearing the game even had them til now does.

I've had a few instances of good team work in BF3 as well...it just takes more work to coordinate. Most of the time I hook up with people not even in my squad. The squad is really meaningless now without voip. You can't spawn on non-squad mates of course, but I can spawn on the far side of a map and be guarantied to have a vehicle to get me quickly to where I want to be. They are everywhere. Seriously they should just have us spawn in a jeep or something and save me a few steps. However, still nothing like timing movements and tossing a grenade...all the things that voice communication allows. Not to mention asking the commander to drop an orbital strike at a certain time and place.

Ive used the heck out of the javelin with aid of soflam. Along with many other players ive played with.

Health regeneration isn't that fast. Med kits are still very useful in situations where you're in a group facing a lot of opponents at once. Good examples are when you're defending a flag in conquest or both attacking and defending objectives in Rush. In both situations, you want consistent pushing without having to back down and health doesn't regenerate fast enough to be effective (suppression also prevents health regen). Having a medic there reviving and putting down packs really helps with keeping people alive and pushing.

SOFLAM is set up on a tripod and can be ran manually from a distance or can designate targets automatically. It allows for aircraft to be targeted by javelins (really effective) and also allows for laser designated armor and aircraft to remain targeted even after using counter measures. They are extremely useful in conquest and CTF and if there isn't already one setup in a server I join, I either set one up myself or ask someone to do so and most of the time, at least one person will do it.

Just like in BF2, you have to find decent servers to find decent teamwork. Most good servers also have a teamspeak or vent servers that you can join which, IMO, is better than in-game VoIP anyway because people are almost guaranteed to want to work together rather than having that chance where people will not listen and ignore you or have people insulting you for stupid things. Even if there is no VoIP available, a good squad can work together without needing to communicate vocally. Sometimes they'll just know what needs to be done.

A SOFLAM squad sounds like it would rule most maps...save for maps like metro and such of course. Man, this is nuts that I haven't gotten to use it...or be around some one else that can use it. I do have the Javelin unlocked. I suppose you have to get all kinds of sniper kills before you get it unlocked...ugg I hate the BF3 unlock system.

Is it only applicable to squad mates or can any one on your team get a link to your SOFLAM? I want to do this. I used to love to Laze stuff and have a JDAM get dropped. Sounds like BF3 doesn't use it with the jets, but I think it still would be fun.

And healing is still needed in heavy fire fights, but I can easily take out two people...run behind cover and regen. Which happens a lot since there a lot of people running around alone or in a pair at best. I don't think it takes long at all...it must be like 30 seconds or so til health regen kicks in. Perhaps if it didn't fill so fast...like maybe a slow tick so a person would have to be out the fight for a long time to heal without a medic. I don't like it and hardcore mode takes things too far.

not a fan of the hard core...they removed the crosshairs and if I have a gun in my hands I don't need to be looking down the sights to know about where my rounds will go. Plus they upped the bullet damage...or lowered health. It seems like a paper cut will kill you. So it is hard to take out anyone with a weapon with a high rate of fire...which if you are new to the game you haven't unlocked much yet. Granted I think normal takes too much damage to kill some one, but hardcore took it too far.

Heh, though I think those maps are the only hardcore maps I played (TDM Canals is the map with all the shipping containers right?)
