Looking for a Mouse in Nowhere land

post #1 of 9
Thread Starter
It has been almost a week since I started lurking around this corner of the forum for some information on mouses, and until a few hours ago I thought I had it all figured out.

1. What's your grip style?
Games - Fingertip
Everything else - Palmgrip with the wrist resting on the mat

2. What's your sensitivity?
Right now I'm using 1500/1600 DPI and this is pretty much my sweet spot. More and I miss everything, much less and it feels too slow for someone as lazy as me. !150 is pretty much the lowest I currently can go without feeling like a slug.

3. What's your maximum budget?
Right now my maximum is 60 euros

4. Do you want additional buttons?
Yes, but I'm not a fan of them. I don't macro anything, but I really love those two thumb buttons for browsing. However in games I pretty much only M1,M2 and wheel.

5. What games do you play?
- A-RTS (LoL, Dota 2...)
- FPS (TF2)
- Third-person hack and slash (Darksiders...)

6. Do you mind about prediction?
I've read about it and to be honest I still don't know what to answer here... A quick search on google says my G5 did not have it, so I guess I'll avoid getting it on the next mouse too. I think I'll be trying one without it.

7. Other relevant information:
  • According to this picture I'm barely a male XL;
  • Right handed;
  • I have a G5 and sometimes the pinky ends up getting in the way;
  • I currently use 4.5*4=18g of weight on my G5;
  • I'm avoiding Razer due to all the RMA problems. RMA is something I'm not very lucky with so a few less headaches are welcomed;
  • CM Spawn and Xornet although a bit interesting may be a bit too small and it seems their thumb buttons aren't that great.;
  • Roccat seems a bit too expensive and in some models their coating wears off a bit too quickly for some users;
  • Zowie mousewheel seems to not be that great. However I am quite happy with the one on my G5 when it doesn't skip. So perhaps you guys can help me here?
  • Cyborg mouses always sounded a bit suspicious for me, and their average life of 1 year scares me;
  • Mionix not only are rare around here but also a bit on the expensive side;
  • Corsair has that useless (imo) red button to get in the way, bad software and a look around here just screams stay away;
  • Right now the only mouse on logitech lineup remotely interesting is the G400, but to be honest I rather just skip this and the next generation that's coming up. Too many buttons on G500 and imo bad mouse-wheel. The G400 is despite seeming interesting has some features that keep me off: cheap plastic cord, Logitech engraved branding, DPI buttons position+profile button. I already tried the G9X and while I agree it is a good mouse, I can't like the mushy thumb buttons, the mouse-wheel and how my hand rests on it...
  • I don't care about leds and such, as long as they're discrete/can turn off/small;
  • Wired;
  • Onboard memory would be nice to avoid using software, however in the end all I care about is adjusting the DPI to 1500/1600 and if necessary turn off the lighting show;
  • Strong construction quality is a must;

As you can see I've tried doing my research, however it came to a point where going any further can be a bit hard since I'm so picky and worst of all restricted to reviews and online pictures since they barely stock mouses around here (apart from entry level and A4Tech).

Hope you guys can help me, because to be honest looking for a nice mouse with my requirements has been tiresome. I've even considered Trackballs...

There's a pretty solid list of mice in the past that have flawless sensors and it's been updated until pretty recently. Perhaps you can find a model with a shape you like. I'm a fan of the deathadder/IME style mice but I'm not sure if you are and if it's good for fingertips.

OCN's also got a pretty good list:
http://www.overclock.net/t/854100/gaming-sensor-list/0_50

Roccat Kone+? Mionix Naos 5000? I've seen pics and the mionix/roccat mice and the rat series don't seem like bad mice and they have flawless sensors. Someone else might be able to speak to that.

Also, your DPI requirement is specific and I don't know each mouse's ranges.

I've seen both lists around. However I didn't pay much attention to the first one since someone else commented how it was an old article, I'll make sure to fix that and read it.

As for DA, I've had one in my hand recently, the Black Edition one, however once again I rather not go back to Razer knowing my bad luck with RMA's...

mabay should have a look aswell at the CM Storm Recon shapewise its nice for fingertip and palming and it has youre dpi step of 1600.
post #5 of 9
Mionx Naos 3200 is decent for palming and bad for fingertip.
Razer Abyssus is good for fingertip and surprisingly ok for palm.
Those are the only two gaming mice I've owned so far. I'm happy with the Abyssus but if someone offered to gift me a new mouse right now, without considering price I would probably choose the CM Spawn. I just hate the fact that it's red.

According to some users it can be a bit small for palm grip, not a good thing considering I spend more time browsing/working than playing.

It's nice to know that about Mionix.
Abyssus is Razer.
I too don't like the red in Spawn, but that, plus small size and bad thumb buttons just made me quit the idea even though it's really cheap.

Edit:

I've been playing around with my DPI and my minimum is pretty much 1150, which kinda of fits with one of Zowie steps. Updating the main post with this information and taking a even deeper look on Zowie.

Ok, so I guess I'm going to risk it and go with Zowie AM. I'm still backtracking the AM Thread, but so far everything seems good and I just hope the few disadvantages I see end up being worth it. However considering what I said previously is there any reason as to why I should avoid this one?

Edit:

So it seems Savu which keeps popping up as a good mouse uses the same sensor of the AM. I'm now taking another deeper look into it with the Zowei AM in mind, since I can get both at the same price.

Thanks, I hate being misinformed. Fixing the main post.

Also after taking a look on a post by Arizonian on the Savu thread I guess I finally decided to go with Savu. Again everybody is free to advise me otherwise considering what I stated previously.

Edit:

Further research led me once again to decide between the Savu and AM.

Edit 2:

Ordered the Savu. Thanks everybody for your help smile.gif
