They mentioned that it was because they wanted to be able to use the full video for other purposes. I assume they also want the full video so they can visually confirm the data. That screenshot of Sleeping Dogs where the runt frame shows as two frame tears is a good example of why you want the full picture just as proof of what is happening.

I missed the part where they are using a splitter. I don't know anything about capture cards and what functionality they have, but I do know the amount of resistence they will/are getting on this kind of testing, so having the full data available probably sounds appealing to them.

HT seems to increase frametime

Nvidia helped them develop a large part of the software that creates those graphs and Sli looks soo much better than CFX... gee i wonder why rolleyes.gif

As long as AMD and Nvidia learn something to this and bing out better CFX and SLI i am all down for these observations. I know in the video he says he drop those short time frames but they must have some effect in the game. I remember when BF3 came out 1x HD 6970 could not handle 1440p at all but HD 6990 was much smother. 10% extra fps based on the video are not going to make a difference in gaming experience.

Probably because SLI was built from the ground up with frame metering built in and Crossfire hasn't?

Tin foil hats at the ready huh? tongue.gif

call it, reasonable suspicion. Until more websites adopt this and it's been verified i think i will maintain my skepticism. thumb.gif

To call CFX a placebo is quite the claim.

The result of these first tests seems to indicate with reference to the GTX 680 and 7970 that for multicard setups currently nVidia is the better option but for single card AMD is the card of choice.
I am glad that they are revealing all facets of GPU testing lately. It can only lead to a better experience overall for everyone. What I would like to see is blind testing of single and multi-GPU setups with everything identical except the GPU configs. I have tested myself with my few AMD/NV cards, though not blind and using last gens cards, and I honestly can't tell any discernible difference in single GPU configurations. I guess I am one of those lucky ones that can't see this stuttering due to frame-time issues. I can't comment on muti-GPU, I didn't try it. I'd like to know a true % number of people in a complete blind testing setup to see how bad this really is. If possible, it would be better if they didn't know what they were being tested for as well, just random gamers asked which setup was more pleasant experience in general. No mention of stuttering, frame times, etc.

Regardless, it needs to be looked into, even if only a small % notices it enough to affect their gaming experience. I would just like to see how bad and widespread this is without placebo or bandwagon'ing playing into it. Graphs and charts are nice, but can really exaggerate or understate something compared to human perception.

It's hardly a case of tin foil hats. It's just common sense. Testees A and B are being tested with a method partially developed by B, then observer X concludes B has the best results. If you can't see why people are skeptic about that... I'm not sure if you're ever skeptical tongue.gif
