I've recently got a new 7870 XT and it has helped my gaming a billion times over. Games play skyrim, planetside 2, borderlands 2 would all run under 10fps on min/med settings, now they all run 40+ on max settings.
now, I've noticed my CPU bottlenecking my GPU (which I knew what was going to happen) in a few games, like skyrim, crysis 3 and far cry 3 I'll get fps drops here and there.
But I've seen others here talking about OCing Q6600's so I was wondering if it would be worth trying, but I don't really know how to or ever messed with the bios.
If I did, would I be able to without buying a cooler? would it be worth the risk of burning it without a cooler and how much of a perfomance boost would it be With or without a cooler?
If I were to OC and get a cooler, Which one should I get and what kind of lifetime could I expect it being OC (its about 3-4 years old now with 0 problems)
Also would thermal paste be worth investing in?
Also, would my mobo allow it? or handle it?
Will my bios allow me?
If it doesn't is there other ways to go around that wont blow my computer up?
here is CPUZ on motherboard tab and Coretemp Idle
and my CPU temp goes up to 60C during gaming but wont go higher after hours of playing.
If I get a cooler of some sort my price range is up to 50 dollars but I'd like to keep it lower unless its really worth the extra $. I'd like to get a new cpu/mobo/ram but I dont see that happening until the end of the year or with 50$, sooo maybe a cooler can give me some OCing and hold me over until then and put said cooler onto the new hardware.
If there is anything else that would be needed to know about my hardware tell me and I'll post it.
All help and advice is appreciated
