Noob needs help!

Hi all,

I am really struggling here. I am building my first gaming rig (I have owned rigs but never built them myself). I am stuck between a few things here.

Firstly do I buy a gtx 670 ftw or a 680 ftw? I will want to sli these badboys at some point. I am stuck between the price and performance of the cards but will most likely want to game at 1440.

That brings me on to my second question. I have been very used to my iMac res at 2560x1440 which looks stunning. If I drop down to a 1080 am I going to notice a big difference? I know about the performance drop going into the higher res which is why I am enquiring about the 2 different cards.

No apple hating comments as that is a waste of my life.

Thanks all.

I personally would go with the 670, the 680 is only about 5% more powerfully for a good amount more money. I couldn't help with the monitor I have never even used one above 1080p

My friend has a 2560x1440 imac. I use it as a monitor sometimes to game on with my rig. it looks pretty amazing, but It doesn't make my monitor look any worse compared to it. a 1080p monitor is most likely going to be smaller, meaning its gonna have a very similar pixel density to the imac. just don't get a 27" 1080p monitor, because then the monitor might look significantly worse to your imac.
You could just get a mini display port to HDMI/DVI adapter? wink.gif

670 FTW for sure. Runs 1080p without even sneezing. From what I've read here on the forums a single GTX 670 can run 2560x1440 with some of the settings turned down. I'll find out personally when I upgrade my monitor. And honestly why pay $100 more for maybe 4-5 fps? Since you plan on buying three that's $300 towards something else or in your pocket.
