An i5 will run circles around any current APU or even any future APU.
The onboard GPU on current APU is around HD Radeon 6670 performance, the future ones are rumored to be at best on par with HD Radeon 7750, and the GTX 660 still rapes it.
An APU won't run such games well enough, ESPECIALLY planetside2.
You also speak you don't want to upgrade frequently, you like to upgrade every 5 years maybe? I don't think APU's will have reached far even then. At such time too, you can buy an i7 for your rig if you need. Used possibly. Also in 5 years time it's quite possible that even APU will have changed sockets.

Planetside2, that's notorious for being very CPU heavy.

Newer games will start to favor the APU over the i3 though. The FX CPU came close to the i5s and i7s in Crysis 3, a rare breed of games that has proper heavy multi-thread support.

HD 7790 is almost a ripoff at $150 if the GTX 650T Boost is $160-170... but then you could argue it's $120 due to games you can sell.

Right now in lowend:
HD 7750 $90-100 , no power connector
GTX 650 ~$110 , needs PCIe power connector
HD7770 ~$100-110
GTX 650 Ti --- ~$120-140 absolutely terrible waste of money.
HD7790 -- $150 supposedly , $30 or so worth of games
GTX 650 Ti BOOST --- $160-180
HD 7850 ~$170-180 , $30-80 worth of games
GTX 660 ~$180-200

Which is why I suggested an i5 with a GTX 660. His budget allows it so why not. A GTX 660 is tons better than any iGPU in any APU.
To OP, if you're willing to wait and can save up some money and worried about dead-end sockets, then you can wait for haswell and add up some cash to get a Haswell i5.

The Kaveri iGPU, if it is about a 7750, then he might be able to have more power than a 660 for about $90-$100 over the cost of the APU. How? APUs crossfire with one card. However, given that we don't know what the Kaveri will be built around, it's all speculation.

A GTX 660 is twice as powerful as HD Radeon 7750 theoertically, so even if he can crossfire, he'll get almost same performance supposing 100% scaling. Plus, he needs CPU power for Planetside2. i5 better than APU.
If he wants to future proof and he's gonna wait he can just go for Haswell, it'll be a bit expensive.
I just see it as a bad investment to invest 500$ into an APU when you can get something much better for almost the same price.

"K" processor is useless except if you get a board with which you can overclock. I don't think you can overclock with a 450W PSU.
But yes an i5 haswell should run easily on a 450W PSU without overclocking, power consumption decreases every generation in most cases, not increases.
Haswell is coming out mid June IIRC.

"The Core i5-4430 will be the cheapest part, priced at $197" from the above article.
Maybe you'll have to pay a bit more for the mobo also.

sounds good then, since the haswell is new tech using newer socket, guess that would last me longer than an apu... can i use the i5 haswell without a gpu for some months until i get enough $ for a gpu?

It'll have an iGPU which should be better than the current one. I have no idea how good it'll be tho. But yes you can use it.
