I will definitely buy this.
Not scary at all in my opinion.. You can fight back and kill things. These games you can't. You HAVE to run.
Everyone who says this about Amnesia usually:
1) Played it with other people in the room
2) Played in during the day
3) Played it with the lights on
4) Played it with sound off or very low
5) Played it while blasting music.
6) All of the above
The game clearly lets you know "how to play the game" when you start a new game and if you don't follow the guidelines and immerse yourself, then it's not going to be very enjoyable. Night time, no light whatsoever, sound cranked up.
You also need to put yourself in the right mood. I replayed it recently, and a couple of times I quit playing after only a few minutes because I noticed I was just playing it as if it were just any physics based puzzle game, without giving a crap about the environment or what was going on. The atmosphere did nothing for me because I was approaching it too logically, and when I'm like that nothing can really get any kind of response from me.
Besides that, at some point it gets really hard to actually get scared by a game. I love horror, but it's gotten incredibly rare for me to even feel uncomfortable because of a game (or movie or whatever). I may have watched too many horror movies when I was a kid; after a while you've pretty much seen everything and nothing can surprise you, let alone scare you. It pretty much sucks because just about everything I play or watch that's supposed to be "really scary!" ends up being a massive disappointment.
