FX-8350 Overclocking help! - Page 3

by way I use the xspc raystorm waterblock and well my big rig I use for gaming isn't setup normal lol. I use a custom cooling cabinet with a V8 4 core copper/brass car radiator in it and 6x 230mm fans mounted on radiator so I never have to worry about radiator causing restriction along with always having room temp coolant temps ( I use 2x swiftech mcp-655 pumps both variable speed controlled one in cabinet one in tower ) I have a aquarium chiller ( http://www.amazon.com/Aqua-Euro-USA-Aquarium-Chiller/dp/B004LPMORW/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1365186447&sr=1-1&keywords=aquarium+chiller ) I use for those extreme situations but I only drop coolant to around 7-10 degrees Fahrenheit below room temp with it lol dont want sweating lol the chiller is digitaly controlled and automatic but 90% of time chiller is off unless I am doing wicked benching lol.

I also wanted to point out I have taken my amd fx 8350 to +5ghz x8 100% stable with my setup for benching including my 3x hd 7970 black editions overclocked to 1200mhz core and cant remember ram overclock on gpu's I also have 16gb 4x4gb sticks at 1866mhz stable (corsair dominator platinum 1866mhz ram ) with the 5.0ghz overclock along with the gpu overclocks so I know my way around these cpu's and overclocking period.

For some reason, I was getting temps up to 60C, and for some reason my Vcore settings was at 1.75V which I know to never go that high. I'm just really curious to why my ram won't go to it's 1600MHz settings, it's at 1333MHz at 6.66X when it should be at 8.00X. But yeah I'll raise my ram to 1.55V and my Vcore to 1.475V. What was your FX clocked at when you tested those voltages and such? But yeah when I try and put it to 1600MHz it goes to post but says a error due to a overclock issue, and says my multiplier x ht link ratio isn't correct then sets it back to 1333MHz.

1.475v was a good for 4.7ghz area once there bump it down till it becomes unstable then raise it a little at a time till stable but first you have to get your ram issues resolved

in otherwards drop voltage from 1.475 to 1.465 then down to 1.455 and so on then once it is completely unstable in tests bump it up till its stable 0.005+ volt bumps once you find the stable spot then start working on other stuff. but I bet your issue is your ram itself 8gb sticks are often buggy but out of experience seems the g skill ram itself is buggy with the 990fx platform.

out of experience voltage is what gives you the most temperature increase when overclocking so trying to keep volts as low as possible will increase chances of overclocking with air cooling and keeping it stable.

Anything else I have to change to get it stable at 4.7GHz? My vCore is at 1.475V and my DRAM Voltage is at 1.550V. I am also putting my ram back to 1600MHz if the error appears I'll type what it exactly says.

Okay I got the error again when trying to put it to 8.00X to get 1600MHz and this is what it says.

The system has experienced boot failures because of overclocking.

Last settings in BIOS setup may not coincide with current H/W states.

Current CPU Speed : 23.5 X 200MHz
Current Memory Speed : 1333MHz (All though it was suppose to be 1600MHz)
Current HT Speed : 2600MHz

Press < DEL > key to enter the BIOS Setup or press any rest of keys to continue . . .

That is exactly what it says. So what's the next idea?

Okay so I tried putting my ram to x6.66 to stay at 1333MHz, so then it was stable and will post. But I tried putting my CPU Clock Ratio to x24 so I'll be running at 4800MHz, and it crashed after I logged in, it locked up.
My settings are:
CPU Clock Ratio: x24 (4800MHz)
CPU Northbridge Freq: Auto (2200MHz)
Core Performance Boost: Disabled
PCIE Clock(MHz): Auto
HT Link Width: Auto
HT Link Freq: 2600MHz
DRAM EOCP: Disabled
Set Memory Clock: Auto
Memory Clock: x6.66 (1333MHz)
DRAM Config: Press Enter
System Voltage Optimized
System Voltage Control: Manual
CPU PLL Voltage Control: 2.500V
DRAM Voltage Control: 1.550V
DDR VTT Voltage Control: 0.750V
NB Voltage Control: 1.210V
HT Link Voltage Control: 1.200V
NB/PCIE/PLL Voltage Control: 1.800V
CPU NB VID Control: 1.3125V
CPU Voltage Control: 1.4750V
Normal CPU Vcore 1.3500V

it often takes a lot more tweaking on the amd fx 8350 to get it above 4.6-4.7ghz a bit above the simple stuff involves a lot of technical know how and experience with the matter so you might be limited to 4.7ghz period and cooling is often the barrier to get it above 4.7ghz cooler the temps the better the fx cpu's like to overclock lower temps make them need less voltage also and so on I know a bit hard to understand but it is facts.
