Anyone have an AMD build with 32GB RAM?

Thread Starter
So the build that's in my sig is actually still currently being put together (just waiting for Newegg to get me all my parts). I'm curious if anyone have had issues with their PC to recognize all 32GB of RAM? I've read some horror stories that many boards that are supposedly able to go up to 32GB have trouble actually doing so unless you meet all kinds of perimeters.

My previous build was a similar set up (AMD CPU, ASUS mobo, Radeon GPU, G.Skill RAM, XFX PSU). I ran 16GB of 1333 with no issues, the PC detected it right away and the mobo had no issues with it.

I know I'm being preemptively pessimistic (try saying that 5 times fast) but I'm wondering if anyone else had a similar issue to what I'm reading and what they may have done to fix it so if I do run into a problem I may be able to fix it immediately.

Thanks people!

I have one. It is running without any issues.

8 core bulldozer in that machine i believe

Loading up so much memory in all the banks will be hard on your IMC. I reckon it will be unable to run at 1866MHz but who knows? I'm able to run 2133MHz with 64GB of RAM but it took some tweaking.

I have memories of an OCN member from last fall or so taking the risk and putting 32GB of RAM in a computer with a GIGABYTE motherboard rated for 16GB but not 32GB, which worked. I don't know if the results are the same for everyone but I can't really say much to this other than if you are willing to take the risk, there may be a chance.

Oh, but if the board is rated to take 32GB of RAM, go ahead. No horror stories of the sort have gone through here, not from what I've seen.

Yes, its rated for 32 but I've heard stories of mobos not recognizing all of it.

Like I said, I'm sure I'm just worrying myself for no reason. I guess I'll find out on Wednesday when the RAM and PSU arrive.

It's going to be a bear to tune it up, but at least you got g.skills instead of some shoddy vengeance tongue.gif

There is an active thread on the g.skill forum where a guy has 32GB running at 1866 on an 8150 and he goes into good detail on his settings.

I have the Sabertooth v1 and an FX8120-
I was kinda worried about it like yourself.
I poured over spec's,reviews and the like, all over the AMD memory section..
I settled on GSkill Snipers at 1600 to avoid issues.
DOCP/Auto,booted on first try.
Now I have a pretty fast RAM disk for..the internet.
Oh and a pretty fast page file.

I wish I had gone ahead with an attempt at 1866,but pricing between 1600 & 1866 was the factor.
xd-1771 is the wisdom in this regard.Go for it.

If you're buying G.Skill ARES anyway the 1600 kits and 1866 kits cost pretty much the same the last time i checked in the states tongue.gif
