If your getting issues with the card at all, send it back. Message him with -> Item Not As Discribed: tell him the card does not work and send it back and issue a refund. You have 30 days regardless of if it says 7 days, 14 days, whatever, you have 30 days to return the item if it is not fully functional and becomes bad. If then he doesn't reply in the next day or so, Open a case and say exactly what you said in the message. Do not be very specific just say, it doesn't work right, you get artifacts or whatever and would like to send it back for a full refund, and he will be forced to do so. Theres your answer on that. Hopefully that helps smile.gif

I would try a fresh install of windows on that old hard drive and see if everything works out. If not, I'd try RMA it like many others have suggested.

OP stated that he once ran 2 7970s in crossfire in the same machine, so i doubt it's the power supply.

This is what I suggested 8 pages ago. Or even a demanding benchmark. It still could very well be a hardware defect but this is much more thorough troubleshooting. Sending it back is a damn pain even without any lost cash.

Just read this entire thread and like its already been mentioned -- contact MSI and see about an RMA before sending it back, I picked up a MSI board off ebay for $25 back in 2006 and the northbridge chip was burnt or something, sent it in to MSI under RMA and they sent me a new one smile.gif

Buying used GPUs from ebay is always a gamble ... i played the gamble for a HD4830 (from china's version of ebay) and what i got will run Windows okay but if i do any gaming i get terrible artifacting .. sometimes red dots but it's only 15$ so ... nah i won't bother. Good enough to boot up OS for 15 bucks. (I didn't pop in my HD5450 because i'm obviously using that in my file server)

Your issue is definitely MUCH worse rolleyes.gif

That's why you pay with paypal and buy on ebay so you are protected and they get you your money back. Call them, don't open some dispute, it'll get addressed quicker.

But like others have said try the RMA with the manufacturer first because a lot of the time it can be a blessing in disguise and you can get a brand new card.

^^^ I absolutely would contact MSI on the phone and see if they will swap the card for you. Last I checked, MSI warrants all their cards based on manufacturer date, and I know for a fact your 7970 hasn't hit three years old yet.

yea MSI RMA is serial based now. i dont even think you need a copy of the invoice to RMA it like some companies require.
