I think the big hurdle would be the "Playstation Shader Language", trying to emulate that....

While the idea of better ports is amazing, I'm more interesting in the prospect of cross platform gameplay. Of course I don't expect Micro$oft to play nice since they are reclusive shut ins when it comes to cross platform play despite the fact they, I don't know, run and own Windows. I could see Sony more open to such a gesture given what we are seeing with Dust 514 and EVE Online cross play.

So not knowing totally how this works, my question is... Does this mean that our hardware now will be more than enough for games going forward? Considering the hardware going into the consoles isn't as powerful as what I have now and it can't be upgraded, or is it not as simple as that? I thought most of the reason why ports were so bad before was the fact that it was being developed for different architectures? Now that it's all x86, would that no longer be the case?

Would also like to know this as well.

The PS4 might end up being an awesome place.....

I've been messing around graphics programming with the Playstation Mobile IDE (Visual Studio C# based). It's heavily focused on "homebrew" and indie dev. I'm not surprised to see this for the PS4. It sounds awesome for the progression of gaming.

The more I hear the better it gets. Win 7 x64 based? Tesselation? Debug code similar to PC?
It's ALLLLLLLLLL good.

Still not getting one. Just looking forward to GOOD console ports.

Also isn't the touch pad about 2-3"? How are they fitting that many pixels on it? Wouldn't the DPI end up being around 500?

The system’s RAM is 8GB 256 bit GDDR5, a high-end graphics memory only found on PC graphics cards.

The AMD 6790 which is a mid range card has 256-bit GDDR5 and that's a mid-range card.

This is good news for PC gamers though, the console ports should be a lot better than current gen ports.

Ports were horrible because the devs were lazy and didn't want to take the extra time and work involved. Now that consoles are getting closer to pc it should be much easier for the devs to do a better pc version.

Hang on, I thought the strong point of consoles was direct-to-hardware coding that made them like 5x more "efficient" than PC's when it came to game optimization.
How is PS4 supposed to do that when it's running Windows 7, won't that also mean running DirectX + AMD drivers, and all the huge performance losses caused by having to convert frames from hardware > software > drivers > directX > etc?
