How is PS4 supposed to do that when it's running Windows 7, won't that also mean running DirectX + AMD drivers, and all the huge performance losses caused by having to convert frames from hardware > software > drivers > directX > etc?

The new consoles still have the same direct-to-hardware benefits as before, it's only the software you use to make and test games that runs on Windows 7.

Ah. So it'll become vastly easier to make awesome PC ports, yes? Developers can't keep playing the "PC is too hard to code for" card biggrin.gif

God I would love that so much. There are so many console exclusives I've wanted to play on PC....

The architecture its built on wont circumvent the fact that console games are made to be played with a console controller, and not a mouse and keyboard - this is one of my main issues with ports.

Still, its a step in the right direction, which is always a good thing.

Don't forget FoV wackosmiley.gif

I think the next stage of PC ports will be drilling the concept of FoV into console developers' thick skulls frown.gif

I'm pretty sure that was the PS3 tagline a few years ago.

The issue with putting time and money into PC development is twofold.
1) PC game sales pale in comparision to console sales, the Xbox 360 in particular.
2) Piracy. You cannot deny that piracy on PC is a massive problem. I remember awhile back, CD Projekt was talking about how they'd sold a little over a million copies of The Witcher 2 on PC - and there were more than 7 million (I think it was 7 million. It was absurd) pirated copies. Ubisoft, EA, etc.. have all made statements about how bad piracy is on PC. They don't make those numbers up.

So, no, the upcoming generation of consoles won't usher in a new glorious age of PC gaming.

^ THIS THIS THIS. I keep telling people that it's piracy that holds back studios putting in all the time and money to make a great pc port becuase of piracy. Nobody seems to listen.

The PS4 might end up being an awesome place.....

The good thing about aspect and idea is that Sony is being REALLY open to even the low end developers if you get me? Like the ambitious average joe who wants to make games and has some know how!

1) Hogwash. Include digital sales and see what happens. Pales? Pah!
2) Balderdash! That's just a convenient excuse by lazy and greedy publishers.

Seriously, you couldn't be more wrong.
