Crysis 3/BF3 FPS drops with GTX 660TI SLI

Thread Starter
Hi all,

So I've had my GTX 660TI SLI config running for a couple months or so now, but for some odd reason, I'm getting these random FPS drops in Crysis 3 and Battlefield 3 (the only two high demanding games I own). I can hit anywhere from 60-140fpsish, but then it'll just get random drops to 30 or so and just completely screw me up.. :/ And yes, I've tried V-Sync, and adaptive v-sync, etc. Still drops to the 40's or so.. Honestly not sure what to do.

Shouldn't be CPU bottleneck, I'm running an FX-8350.
Temps are all fine, GPU is >60C and CPU is >45C.

Full specs (for reference):
2x1TB Western Digital Caviar Black
Asus Crosshair V-Formula-Z
AMD FX-8350
2xGTX 660TI
Antec 1000W PSU
16GB DDR3 @1866

Suggestions?

Maybe too much ram causing latency issues.

60-140fps is a MASSIVE difference in frames, i would be wondering if your CPU can push it effectively, i know that multi GPU does not bode all that well on AMD platforms, but i did not think it was this bad?

Check CPU usage, and check that you have tried other drivers etc.

Too much RAM?... I didn't know that you could ever have "too much" of something.. :/ So how do I fix this, go back down to 8GB? I know lots of other people running with 16GB of RAM and they're doing fine.. Or is there some other solution?

The newest one, 314.22 I believe. The newest one that Nvidia released like yesterday or whatever, the "Bioshock Game Ready" driver.

Yea I know! And my CPU seems to be doing fine (I think) as it's peaking at about 70-75%ish. I don't think that's a bottleneck.. I'm kind of regretting switching over to AMD, one of my friends convinced me that it was AMD or the highway (cause I got a faulty Intel CPU, does happen every once in a while i.e. occasional manufacturer defect). Might go back to Intel for Haswell release..

Is your cpu overclocked?

I have money on CPU throttling, make sure APM is off in BIOS. My 8320 and 660 SLI runs BF3 just fine locked at 60fps 2560x1600. Only game I have any issues with is planetside 2 in large battles but everyone is cpu bound in that game.

Try rolling back drivers?

Uh I can't do anything in the BIOS, my BIOS chip is completely gone.. Got my mobo RMA'd due to a "part shortage" (wouldn't post, ASUS came back and said in the repair thing it was a "part shortage" and so they gave me a new mobo). But uh, this one won't save ANY BIOS settings.. I'll save it, and by next boot it'll be erased. Can't update BIOS either. Asus said it's a problem with the chip, and I either have to replace it or RMA it again.. sigh. So I guess maybe that might help? So I can go and change all this in the BIOS?
