I guess it's a matter of supply and demand. And personally, the mobo (together with the PSU) are the core parts of a PC and should NEVER be skimped upon.
Ok thats sounds great..how good exactly will the graphics card you link in your second recommended be..I mean Is I something Ill be able to live with for a while, or is it a card Ill want to upgrade ASAP. Cause Im doing this for the games of course.

And getting that processor up to 3.0 GHz would be so awesome.. I'll buy water cooling and I'll have to get alot of help with doing that.

Thanks so much for all the help.

The 7600GT will serve you quite well for at least a while. Don't expect Oblivion maxxed out, but do expect Oblivion with decent settings. I don't think it'll annoy you, esp. since you have a 17" monitor (1280x1024?).

BTW vista..How is that..I heard it'll make everything operate like a mac...ekkk.
How will it effect programs..are most problems out there compatible?

id rather the ATi card(s) listed, unless you plan to scale to SLi... other than that, all the good options are already there, Ive got nothing better to add in that respect, however Id shy away from teh ECS just because Id want to take full advantage of the C2D and overclock it

Just be sure to get the video card before the monitor or else you'll be bothered by the lower resolution.

Those ATI cards are quite a bit more $$

I'd say Core 2 Duo + 7600GT will make you satisfied enough for the time being... until upgrade to DX10 and another 1GB RAM.

Good overclockable rig. Decent video card, and great all around performance. That E6300 will trounce anything AMD has to offer when you overclock it (past 3.0GHz should be easy, at which speed it even leaves an FX-62 in the dust)
When he says C2D he means that system. It won't get much better than that for your budget. And to be honest. That's a sweet ass build.
