Through the PR speak and technical language, one thing was abundantly clear at AMD’s press conference at GDC 2013, electronics giant wants to push the next-generation of gaming to the cloud.

What’s interesting is that the company’s new commitment to cloud-based gaming will be accomplished through its special new cloud-focused enterprise graphics cards, called Radeon Sky Graphics. AMD has partnered with CiiNow, G-Cluster, Otoy and other cloud-based gaming services, to deliver their vision for the future of cloud gaming.

These graphics processors aren’t designed to work on the average person’s high-end gaming PC. They’ve been specifically created to work with remote gaming servers and have the ability to stream content to a variety of devices from PCs, smartphones and tablets.

I'd hope not, who wants to deal with 50+ms of lag on recieving a lossy video to interact with?

People paying $100 for a tv-plugin perhaps, not competitive gamers.

I see this industry drive towards the cloud being quite disastrous in the short term. Eventually I think it'll work out, but for now it's too early.

Another good article here:

The company used good example in terms of how many major companies compete for the tight space in other entertainment industries such as music, movies or even automotive industry. When it comes to the gaming industry, the space is significantly more open. As a company that powers key console products from Nintendo, Microsoft and will power Sony PlayStation 4, the company is set to enjoy significant improvement of its balance sheet. In the battle of actual gaming consoles, AMD disclosed that Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony shipped a grand total of more than 750 million units. Should the next-gen consoles achieve the same result, AMD stands to ship anywhere between 750 and a billion units, APUs and GPUs (and those units combined).

PC is the Core of AMD Architecture

There's no beating around the bush - AMD sees PC as the building block of all of its current and future products, from server to mobile phones, as well as building a software ecosystem that optimizes for their hardware and offers compelling experience. The company is no more afraid of talking about its design wins with PlayStation 4 being the hot ticket. Naturally, AMD cannot discuss unannounced Microsoft Xbox Next ('Xbox 720', 'Durango') design win until Microsoft announces it at E3 timeframe, nor could they discuss the Xi3's PISTON console.

I think AMD has been quietly working in the backround shrugging off all the doom and gloom FUD being spread, and with Gaming Evolved is now beginning to make the big push. It's not just the cloud that AMD is aiming at, it's the entire gaming industry but cloud is sure a big part of it. All the

Well...sorry AMD, it isn't. Maybe they should, oh I don't know, ASK A GAMER?

Sure, they just whipped up a multi-year project on a whim after seeing Nvidia's grid a few weeks ago.

Let's not get mixed up about who is in possession of who's stolen confidential documents...

I will NEVER... EVER... put up with such a horrible idea. Cloud saves are alright since they're a form of backup (provided I can have local saves as well), but cloud gaming gets a NO! from me. What happens to mods after cloud gaming becomes the norm? What about lifetime ownership of content? They cease to exist for cloud-only games. Cloud: the ultimate DRM in which you lose ownership and freedom over your content.
