[OC] AMD hopes the future of PC gaming is in the cloud - Page 6

When it's in the cloud, it's out of your hands. I don't trust a company with my games, no company is too big to fail or too nice to not revoke or not support the games years down the road. The cloud can shove it for all I care, this company-driven push takes an investment out of our hands for the most part. :/

Note how they are referring to smartphones and tablets mostly.

The future of gaming in those platforms is outsourcing most of the power consuming calculations to servers and streaming the results to your phone/tablet, improving user experience and decreasing the power consumption and the processing power requirements in your handheld, lowering its cost, its power consumption, and improving its battery life.

Embrace change, it can be good.

Smartphones and Tablets isn't "PC Gaming".

IMO, any company, that hopes that PC Gaming is cloud based (and out of my hands and thus totally contrary to the very notion of PC Gaming) isn't a company that I wish to support.

And no, I won't embrace it. I like CHOICE. I can't stand people, politicians, or companies that refuse to give me choice.

How about if you want to embrace it (ie Cloud Computing), you take it to Console/Tablet/Phone Gaming? Leave PC Gaming the way it is ... with CHOICE.

Yeah, no. Sorry. I will NEVER participate in cloud gaming. The very idea offends me.

I am not a fan of "Cloud" anything - prefer to keep my stuff on my machines . Gaming is no exception .
The cloud may be the future for some - but it is a future I'll have no part in .

I agree but this is less of a concern to me than controlling the communication by controlling the tool used to communicate.

If AMD becomes irrelevant, i.e is crushed by Nvidia and disappears, what implications would it have for our choices?

It's so depressing, I went into one of the big box stores yesterday to buy a new game to play over my break and to my surprise a few of them were just paper place markers that were just digital downloads. When I asked one of the employees for a physical copy of the game it was priceless, he just stood there acting like a physical copy could never exist.

I could understand cloud gaming for tablets and smartphones.

However, the cloud, is not a viable option for some people. Particularly for those still stuck on "broadband" services that have a 500 MB cap and/or 2 Mb/s down connection.

Or those that are stuck on satellite or dialup.

I think we need to enter an era where I can stream my PC games to my TV or any other source without any kind of input lag or so (perhaps minimal).

Same goes with keyboard and mouse as well.

Honestly I can see that the PC market is lacking an equipment or a box that can be connected to a TV which will stream PC image, as well as have USB ports for mouse and keyboard that again the drivers are installed on the PC.

Such a missing market and a product like that can perhaps take a slice of the console market as well.

I am in for this could gaming.
