I'd say graphically, this guy is up there around the Human Head Nvidia demo, which is pretty impressive.
However, as soon as he starts to talk, it falls apart. He wasn't NEARLY as expressive with his lips, or his expressions, as the characters in Half-Life 2 were. Half-Life 2 came out in 2004. 2004 was 9 years ago.

Currently, I'd say the modern mark to beat is Elizabeth (Bioshock Infinite). At least, during cutscenes when her animations are most expressive.

It looks pretty good. Too bad 90% of that detail goes to waste if you're not up close. I say this means we need higher DPI monitors!

I know he is just A.i. but if this is where next gen is heading then i might stop playing FPS games, that's creepy.

Lol. No. What you're saying now could be said with any graphical development thats took place over the past few years. It's good games strive for realism, it's good for immersion.

Personally i can't wait for moments like that. Heck, add kids to the mix and then you've really got a game that makes you think twice about your actions. (Fallout 3 type gore on these models would be pretty awesome)

In the end though, it's just a game. If it can effectively stir up emotions like that in me, then it's a good game. If you're sensitive enough that you find it traumatic, then maybe gaming isn't for you.

MMM Well said! I think the reason why we play these games are for those emotions, if you can't handle them... Well, not everyone can be in the Army either and that is a bit more real than this.

Well in some places you can join while still a teenager - too young to purchase some (apparently) bad games. Too young to drink, and maybe even too young to drive, but plenty old enough to die for your country and witness atrocious things. Backwards to say the least.

Back on topic, i see nothing wrong with improvements to faces like this, it's a lovely step forward. Games have been lacking in this for some time. The only concern i have is if it's used as an excuse to dumb down the experience, rather than used as a means to enhance it.

In the UK you can join at 16 but you don't see any "action" until you're at least 18. Before then it's pretty much just training.

You can do similar things here, you can join and do work for the army at 16 if you know the outlets. When you officially join, that goes as a bonus and you can join ranks higher than the average person. Also helps to be an eagle scout.

On that note, I think this is a very apt step for gaming. Maybe now we can actually get ratings that are worth it. Doubt it though, oh well. I'll still welcome more and more realism, it'll benefit everyone even if the game they play isn't as real. The push for realism helps develop newer techniques, look what Tesselation and how we have learned to optimize that. Or better, what Crytek did with their trees without tesselation. Fun stuff.
