Looking for alternative choices to a 15inch Macbook Pro Retina

Well the time has come in my life to finally buy a laptop. Crazy how I've never owned one until now. My primary use for it will be music editing and Dj'ing (90% of the time)and typing the occasional paper at University. I guess being a coffee shop warrior too.

The 2.4ghz 15inch Retina pro is what I'm considering. I can get it for $1,999. With student discount. It has the specs that I require. At least 8gb of Ram, 256gb of SSD of flash storage.

The reasons I'm considering mac is because of a few other Djs (family members) Harp on about how much more stable their sets were with a mac vs PC. I've come up with these as pros for buying a mac.

Pros:
Nice craftsmanship
More stability during shows

Cons:
Expensive
Expensive to upgrade if up-gradable at all.

Now before I bite the bullet on this I'm wondering what other options do you guys think I should at least consider? PC or Macbook wise

The only requirement spec wise is 8gb ram and 256 of ssd/flash based storage. I don't think an increase in CPU power from the i7 at 2.4ghz would help music much or would it?

Just saw the format I should have had this thread in. I'll leave the original post up anyway though.

What is your maximum budget? 2000$ USD

What country are you in? America

What will be the uses of this laptop? Music production/editing and Djing. Occasional student use and websurfing.

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you? Leaning toward Apple.

What screen size do you require? 15 inch

What screen resolution do you require? Hoping for 1080 at least.

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay? New

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet) 5 hrs

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings? None.

What operating system do you need? (if any) OSX or Win 7/8

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.) Not really

How much hard drive space do you need? 256gb SSD or flash storage.

Do you need any special hardware? (blue ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.) N/A

Is there anything else we need to know? I'm told by more than one reliable source that apple is more stable with the programs I'll be using as well as the equipment.

Some Windows alternative would be the Asus UX51Vz, Sony Vaio S 15" or the Samsung Series 7 15"... they are all priced similarly to the rMBP (comes with i7 2.3-2.4GHz quad core, 8GB+ RAM, 256GB SSD and GT650M+ or better) but honestly in terms of support, reliability and craftsmanship, it doesn't compare to it. Also the GT650M in the rMBP comes factory overclocked at 900MHz+, which makes it faster than a GTX660M. Honestly, Apple should have just renamed it to the GTX660M because GT650M and GTX660M are the same except clock speed. In addition most audio and video production houses use OSX so you will find great support for all your audio editing needs.

You will be very happy with the rMBP. Did I mention the insanely high res (2880x1800) calibrated IPS screen?

Another option is the Non-Retina MBP 15" with high res AG screen (1680x1050 only though).

Buy SSD, RAM yourself. You can get 256GB SSD and 16GB ram cheaper then Apple's insane prices on upgrades.
You can RAID 0 two 128GB SSDs together as well if you remove optical, do one 512GB SSD or do mix of both SSD and HDD.
