Hey guys, my first post here, but been browsing some threads and trying to solve my problems on my own the last few days. So my situation is this- I just swapped my old Athlon II CPU for a Phenom II 550. Also swapped out my old RAM (2X1GB HyperX, and one stick of 2GB HyperX) just for 2x2GB Kingston VR (800MHz), hopefully adding another 4GB in the next week or so. The rest of my system- Asus M4N78 Pro, 650W Antec PSU, GTX 275, This is my CPU cooler - . I tried unlocking cores on the cpu, but I get artifacts, so I turned to overclocking. I read a lot of info on successful overclocks of these CPU''s, and the last setting I was at was 18X Multiplier (3.6 GHz I believe), and 1.4V. It would start up fine, but every time I went into prime95, it would run for about 15-30 min, and BSOD on me. At first I thought it might be the RAM, but ran through memtest86, no errors, so I went into my BIOS and switched the RAM from Auto to 800MHz, still BSOD afterwards. Switched back to stock settings, and started prime95 this morning, it ran for about an hour before I left, no errors, just left it run until I get home. Any advice as to what to do from this point to try and get a decent OC? I am stumped.
