I would try not to go past 1.45v 24/7. Though I have seen some run 1.5 without issues... but that is cutting it too closely for me. Once you get past 4.8 (and even then, you are going to need at least 1.4-1.45), the amount of voltage needed to even get close to 5 becomes stupid (and temps get out of hand at around 4.8 anyways, unless you have water) and it is not worth it unless you have a golden chip.

Look in CPUz under load, that will tell you. I am not really sure how offset works and I don't really understand, so that is why I don;t use it. For me, I have found using Fixed voltage to be easier in overclocking (because it is what I am use to).

Although I would also check out the H/W monitor tab in your bios and see what it says. Though I would go with what CPUz says under load (prime95 after 5 minutes).

ATM the H/W Monitor in the BIOS is giving me 1.256v

Gonna go say goodnight to the wife and then run 5 minutes of P95 and get back to you

+0.175V offset depends on the V_ID that the CPU asks for. Each CPU is different so you need to check yourself.

Either
A. Using either a multimeter (if your motherboard has V_Check points)
B. CPU-z /OCCT/HWMonitor under prime95 or Linpack (OCCT) ... Asrock undereports voltages usually which is why A. is preferred. Even on my board which has Vcheck points it is off by 0.01 or so (margin of error)
C. If fixed voltage, it should show in BIOS

You need to clear of several things:
V_core is not V_ID (Realtemp shows V_ID)

V_ID --> LLC /PLL/ and Offset and whatever other things the motherboard needs to do to adjust --> becomes V_core (what shows in CPU-z/HWMonitor/BIOS)

Offset usually requires more volltage than fixed. For many it is +0.02-0.03V more than fixed needs. For offset you want lower LLC and more + V_core offset since otherwise it will BSOD on idle due to too low V_core.

Definetly use a multimeter and until you do use one don't overclock past 1.35v. On my last AsRock board the voltage was .1v higher than I was feeding it and I didn't realize that so I was actually feeding my chip 1.55v for a couple of days. Luckily I randomly decided to check the voltage points and almost died of shock when I seen 1.55v. If you are going to be using offset on that board I would use a Level 5 Load Line Calibration because it will minimize vdroop and too high of a voltage being fed to your chip without your knowledge. Just make sure you back down your overclock and just add a .005v offset just so you can see what your voltage is under load because a higher LLC causes more voltage to be fed to your chip so if you use the same offset you were using before it will skyrocket the voltage even though all you changed was the LLC.

Hope that made sense. Beyond exhausted right now.

Just stay patient and you will start to understand all of this stuff.

Bear in mind that you need to be careful using a multimeter... it is easy to short a board... or chip.. or both. I have done both doh.gif
