Overclocking the Phenom II 965 BE on a Sabertooth R2

post #1 of 3
Thread Starter
Hey all,

I'm having a hell of a time bumping this Phenom above 3.8. Having read that the C3 should be able to reach 4.0 on air, I figured I'd post by bios settings here to figure out if I'm missing anything obvious. Starting from stock...

Sorry for the wall of text, I just wanted to be thorough and make sure I'm not on the wrong page as to stock settings before I take another shot at it. This may just be a stubborn CPU despite being a C3, as I hit the same wall on my earlier board (M4A79XTD), but I figured I'd be able to squeeze a little bit more on the Sabertooth, and I've been rather scattershot in my approach. Let me know if anything's off!

Thanks!

Edit: Just to be clear, the RAM is rated 8-8-8-24 and 1600 @1.6v, but the model is notoriously finnicky when it comes to Phenom processors, so I'm taking it easy on it while I work on the CPU.

Ollie tells all the little secrets here: http://www.overclock.net/t/777378/official-gappos-little-deneb-thuban-overclocking-guide-with-too-many-smileys/0_20

Keep the cores under 55

Sometimes you have to OC the NB to get higher OC.

My NB voltage is 1.26v
CPU/NB=1.47
NB 1.8=1.85-1.9
Vcore=1.44-1.57
CPU/NB freq=2800 on Deneb (my IMC is kinda weak)
RAM speed=1500-1920
