[Build Log] The old and the new -- antique desk build

Hey, I wanted to make a short and simple build log mostly because I dont want to have to post updates of my build in multiple places all the time. I needed to build a desk to house my folding rig for team competition folding. GO DARK PREDATORS!! . I recently ''finished'' some major renovations on my house which included finishing a 400 square foot attic to be my man cave and the home for my builds. I found an antique desk that would fit in one of the dormers in the attic and seemed deep enough to work with so I jumped on it despite its appearance.
Shortcuts
-Parts list and build start
-Desk bottom build and dry-fit of motherboard

The Desk

The Spot

The Parts (see why I need a desk, the dust is from the renovations , I do NOT put my rigs through this all the time !)

The components going into this rig as far as I know at this point are :
-Intel 3570K currently @4.8
-Asrock Z77 extreme 6 Mobo
-Nvidia gtx 570
-M4 120Gb SSD
-OCZ modx 600W
-Samsung 4Gb x2 @1600Mhz

In the process of purchasing a rasa RX 360 kit from another folder so that is probably going to be the cooling , for now an H100 is installed.

I started taking the desk apart to get rid of the warped bottom of the drawer and back slide the top off to get started on sanding.

I started sanding the top but soon realized that the paper I was using was not going to do the trick , the staining and damage is way too deep so for now I put that aside.

I started building a new bottom and after measuring ( yes for the first time ) I find out that rebuilding the original drawer will not work because its would be too shallow for the gtx 570 so I need to build bottom which will win me a couple of inches, my material of choice is good old cheap MDF 1/4, the inside will get painted white anyways to give it a glossy more modern interior to contrast with the outside of the desk which will be a varnished red-ish mahogany look.

After temp-tacking the bottom to the desk

Notice I already marked the spots for the Mobo screws , after that I just drilled the holes and installed stand-offs .I dont need to put the mobo all the way to the back because im going to make a false back where the IO will be , the top can be slid off anytime so access isnt a problem. The only downfall to a desk this size is that once I put the plexi-glass on the top over the mobo it will be covered by a keyboard most of the time but that was inevitable because if I pushed it further back it would be under the monitor stands.

With stand-offs installed

Now the difficult part , since this build is for my team competition folding rig it can only be turned off for short periods of time and now that the desk is already more suitable than on top of a table in the basement I had to install everything in.

Mobo installed

Once everything is set up I will get custom sleeved cables and run them under the desk so obviously none of the wires will be visible , ill use the from of the drawer for the reservoir and dvd drive on/reset switches and a set of USBs but for now its just a snake pit

Now the rig is up and running , kind of backwards from how most people make their builds but this rig cant stop running for any length of time, yes temp control is an issue without proper venting 67-80C temps on CPU folding

I know man but it was sitting on top of a dresser in the basement while all the lath and plaster in the house was getting demo'd and then the drywall and mudding so despite daily spraying with compressed air it took a beating . Before I install the water cooling everything will come out and get cleaned properly and it will shine its gold caps again.

That 570. I loved that card. Its what I used when I was running them in sli. They seemed to run much cooler than the original pcb.
