MSI 890FXA GD65 and Raid 0 installation problem. - Page 2

glad everything worked out.

just a friendly warning in case you update your AMD Chipset drivers
and your Windows is on a RAID partition. Don't reboot while updating
the drivers (after it uninstalls the current drivers).

also, from my understanding AMD Catalyst Un-install Utility removes
all AMD drivers on your system included the RAID drivers.

Lol your too kind. But since you mention expert, I do have another question on Raids. I dont know if this should be a new thread or not but here goes.

Is a raid setups performance dependent upon which brand of SSD’s you use on a specific brand motherboard?
I’ve read that a hardware based Raid Card has a controller like an SSD and if you mix two different controllers, it can slow the system down causing no better performance than not using raid.

In other words, a Marvell controller based Hardware Raid Card with 2 Samsung SSD’s can cause slower read/writes than using Marvell based SSD’s on the Raid Card. Or mixing Sandforce with Marvell products, etc.

Is this true? If so, does not the motherboard also have a certain brand raid controller built in that needs to match the controller on the SSD’s for better performance? Or is what I went through earlier all dependent upon that darned Raid Driver I had to install because its software based and nothing more?

here is a good article talking about software based RAID, fakeRAID
(Intel ICH10R, AMD SB850, and various Marvell products) and Hardware RAID.

Just thought I would post brief results after all the work I went though to get this to work.
The end goal was to double the disk space and I did accomplish that.
The benchmarks were not quite what I thought they would be. I think in the future I will just buy a larger SSD rather than go Raid. I did just about every Tweak I could find. I do have both SATA ports (the first 2) used but all 6 ports support SATA 6GB.
Ive seen better scores post by others but maybe not all are a valid comparison to this.
