I really didn't hit it that hard, I had two people helping me and none of use expected it to even move more than a tiny bit let alone do a flip off of the IHS and hit the wall. The vice was attached to a bench and right near the wall, so I figured at worst it would fall on the bench but it did a little flip in the air and hit the wall instead. When I looked at it there is 2x the glue on one side of the PCB as the other, so maybe it came loose a lot easier than expected. I used a tiny hammer, I didn't think it was even going to come off like that. I agree that I messed up with the tape though, I used masking tape and didn't stick it down real well because I was afraid of the glue getting on the pads.
