[How To] Delid your Ivy Bridge CPU with out a Razor Blade! - Page 93

The wood is also going to absorb some of the shock. Hitting it directly with a hammer could crack the pcb if you didn't hit it absolutely straight.

Another question, why are people using CLU on the die itself, but not on the IHS?

From what I'm reading I think it's because a pain and because it doesn't give much temp difference inbetween the IHS and Cooler that it does inbetween the die and the IHS.

I have posted a lot about that, bottom line is some use it on top of the IHS, but most don’t. It is a pain to clean since it becomes hard and stains both the IHS and cooler. It can all be removed, including the stains, with metal polish and an hour of your time, but most don’t think the extra few c is worth the trouble. I use it but I tell people not to bother unless they know what they are getting into.

I have stain just after a day of use on my copper water block
tried to polish it with braso but it just doesnt work
I would go that far for performance though as long as the stain doest interfere with the aesthetic look

I get about 3c better with CLU on the IHS vs. other TIMs, but other’s results may vary.

I use this: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

If you spend enough time with it, all the stain will come off.

So I need:

(1) Vise
(2) Hammer
(3) CLU Paste
(4) Don't be an idiot

Sound about right? biggrin.gif

I was just going to use my PK-1 under the IHS but it seems that no one will even bother using anything other than CLU. I'm guessing for good reason.

I started with MX-2 and got a 12c drop, But with CLU i'm at a 26c drop. That is why everyone uses it biggrin.gif
