Board damage/possible upgrades

Thread Starter
Alright, so I'm posting this from my laptop thanks to a fried powersupply and videocard from a nice lightning strike my building suffered on Sunday (I wasn't getting power through my surge protector, so I plugged it into the wall figuring I'd get a new one on Monday. Some luck) I have two critical questions regarding my motherboard:

1) I've tested everything and it seems like the PS and GPU were the only casualties, however if it was enough to torch the GPU, could it have damaged my motherboard and the effects will be felt down the road?

2) Seeing as I have the MSI 870-G45 and they seem to be in the running for most failure-prone motherboards (Again, my luck is horrid it seems) should I just get a new one anyway?

Keep in mind, my budget is severely limited, I can go 70 or maybe 80 if there's a compelling reason for the extra 10 bucks.

Current specs:

12GB Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz
Phenom II X4 840 3.2Ghz (No OC as of now, thinking about it later on to squeeze a few extra months of relevancy out of the old chip)
EVGA GeForce GTX 560 (Planned GPU replacement)
Corsair CX600 (Planned PS replacement)

I open the floor to your infallible, expert opinions.

I haven't had any experience with lightning strikes but I would expect power supply taking the hit directly
than anything that is directly connected to it to be next (motherboard, video card, hard drives). How did
you test your components? did you test the memory and processor?

$90 after $20 in rebates (normally the CX430 goes on sale for $19.99 after $20 rebate - current rebate expire 3-31
maybe some deal will pop up this weekend). The Builder Series is good enough but I only would recommend them
on sale.

Geeks has some deals on refurbished AM3 motherboards but shipping kinda hurts

Really sucks about your system.

I went to a friends house and did a few parts-swapping. First thing we did was swap in his power supply, that got the computer turning on but I had no video. So next we swapped in his video card, which got me video. I ran a "stress test" (Skyrim cranked up) for an hour or so without running into problems, then went and did a memtest and HDD read-write test.

Oh, and I meant $70-$80 for the board, not for all of the components together. I'm tempted to just keep running this board until either A: It dies or B: I can afford an upgrade for the sake of upgrading.

Just curious if running it is asking for it to take other components with it when it finally goes as well as to build a "oh crap, it broke, I need a new part" list.

FYI: I got the Corsair Builder (Always had good experiences with Corsair) and elected to go with an HIS Raedon 7770.

I also got a CX430 (very basic power supply) great for $20. the original version was much better than the new ones.
but for $45 and having to wait for the mail in rebate I would recommend a Seasonic 400W SS-400ET for $45.

Thanks for the input, hopefully this MSI will hang on until I'm ready to plunk down for a serious upgrade. Shame AMD seems to be leaving the dedicated processor market, Intels are ridiculously expensive.
