I agree. It seems like such a common sense kinda thing. Guess it was just a matter of no one wanting to invest in making it.

I for one think this is terrible, Not because it's bit torrent, Not for any other reason other then it's using my upload capabilities for someone else's viewing pleasure, I'm sorry no-one else but me pays for my connection, If this came into play i'd just throttle the upload myself so it wouldn't get used.

If you have a data cap that's understandable, otherwise...

I sure that they'll implement some way to control your upload rate, just like I'm sure they'll allow people to only seed to people who seed often.

p2p streaming has been done before, it just wasn't very good.

people don't like their upload being used, especially if there is no alternative way of viewing the content - some early starcraft 2 streams tried it. i believe one of the plugins was called octoshape

they also had the annoying problem of requiring a seperate plugin to be installed

Even if i didn't have a data cap, It'd still bring a connection to a crawl despite The newer things allowing uploading and downloading to happen simultaneously without interfering with each-other ISP's don't give a rats ass, I could have 100/100 and if i'm uploading at 90, I've only got 10 down, Sorry but my point stands, It's a terrible idea and i'll simply throttle uploading to the maximum possible extent.

Wow, just seems kind of selfish. By watching, you're taking someone's upload too. And there should be no reason the stream should take more than a Mbps and more than 50% of your upload already. I think they are aware not everyone has fibre.
I just can't believe how negative you are about this. If you still don't like it, this might not be your thread. Remember that post on dinosoars?

This should be interesting.

In before an argument develops about how piracy is going to take this over.

Exactly what does a protocol have to do with piracy? People can pirate over http as well as through bittorrent. This is just another protocol that publishers can choose to use if they so desire. They can still charge or show ads if they want.

Your upstream and downstream are not connected in that manner.

While I agree with you in part, I will make one concession. This is fine for people without data caps and with the bandwidth to cope.

Almost every single internet plan in Australia has a data cap. There are VERY few who offer "unlimited data", and even when they do, they usually have some sort of "within reason" clause in there and will shape you if you use what they deem to be ludicrous amount of data per month (say, 500GB+). Not only that, but most of the ISP's who do offer "unlimited plans" have poorer quality connections (noise/interference) and usually result in slower down/up speeds and also a much less reliable service (lots of down time, noticeable slow downs during peak times etc.)

So for those with the speed and bandwidth to handle this its awesome, for those of us stuck on a 150GB a month (both up & down are counted), this is not really so great.

Sadly, as far as I am aware, there are no plans to remove data caps in this country either (due to costs).
