Low FPS with High-End PC Build

Thread Starter
Ok so i have put alot of money into this rig and am now starting to question what thew problem is, i recently purchased a GTX 690 but was experiencing low fps on game and that is a 1,000$ card and was told that the reason for the lag may be because it is a Dual GPU, So i purchased a 680 MSI Lightening to see if i had the same problems and i updated to the most recent drivers but when i play games like Bioshock Infinite or FC3 i have tremendous lag and slow downs, i also have Anti-aliasing turned off and Vsync off. I was just told that my issues may be becuase i have a AMD Fx-8150 and a Crosshair Formula V mobo, should i just go ahead and purchase an Intel mobo and processor or may there be other issues?

There may be some kind of issue, how bad is the slowdown? If you are seeing FPS in the teens or twentys then there is a problem. The 8150 isn't a great chip and it WILL bottleneck the 690 especially at stock clocks but it should be ok for those titles. Are you OCing the 8150 at all?

Everything in my pc is new so im hoping nothing is damaged, yes my processor is overclocked from 3.6 ghz to 3.79 its just a basic overclock. Now would that also bottleneck my 680 video card? Well i built this PC so i could play on highest settings on games but i have to play on Normal some games i get lucky and can play on High but never Ultra, thats why i paid so much for the 690 i was thinking of purchasing the Titan but i doubt i will see any better performance considering the 690 has higher benchmarks

Stuttering and stuff like this sounds like a driver issue or less likely, overheating issue somewhere causing things to throttle which is highly unlikely.

Those games aren't really the ones that AMD is known to have issues with. If you were having frame issues in SC2, or Civilization 5 i'd say without a doubt that you need to overclock the processor more or replace it.

Run the games with both task manager and MSI Afterburner open. Alt tab out and check both. If one is at or near 100% usage that is a bottleneck problem.

I'm using driver 314.22 and my PC has not overheated yet, i never experience problems out of this PC, it's only when playing games. Also, the games seem to lag the most when there is alot more going on like in Bioshock when im in a secluded small area with not so many enemies it usually runs ok, but when i'm not in a building and i'm outside it, there is very low fps

Both of these pieces of advice feel ... misleading... If there's a bottleneck with an 8350 and a high end card I think there's some bigger problems to worry about rather than "oh the processor is just bottlenecking the gpu" or vice versa... mellowsmiley.gif

*Telling us "i'm using driver 314.22" isn't sufficient, it is useful as a starting point, to begin diagnosing driver issues. basically driver issues = software issues = nothing wrong with hardware

Are you running 3 1080P monitors?
Overclock that cpu some more...
Run the valley benchmark and see your scores..
When these are right, your card is 2.
Then you need to lower your settings or wait for a decent driver for Bioshock.

Yeah i do have triple monitor setup but the other two are disabled when i am playing a game so my resolution is no higher than 1920x1080, also i ran Bioshock with task manager and my CPU usuage was never above 35. I'm currently downloading the Valley Benchmark and i will post the results shortly.
